Congratulations Terri. How wonderful that Rosalie has arrived. What a beautiful name (my husband's niece's name as well). Enjoy lots of cuddle time.

As for how to make up the reels - we are using Edita Sitar's book Friendship Strips and Scraps. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the info, Rita. And no, Stitches, is not my real name but something that I use a lot...Sandy would be my real name. I don't have Edyta's book so maybe I can figure out the measurements myself when I get ready to use the reels. I just don't know what I will make with them yet.

Hi Sandy, here is a method for making up the reels (spools)http://www.quilterscache.com/S/SpoolBlock.html except the finished size of the thread section on our reels will be 3" by 4". I reckon that the wooden part needs to be 1" wide, finished size, which will give a finished block of 5" x 6". But you don't have to make reels if you don't want to - bird houses have also been suggested - see Rita's AAQI quilt a couple of pages back.

Sandy, here are the measurements I have used: 2 x 4 1/2" x 1 1/2" in background fabric for the sides of the reels; 2 x 5 1/2" x 1 1/2" for the spool top/bottom in whatever fabric you choose; 4 x 1 1/2" squares in background fabric for the corners of the spools. Sew the 4 1/2" strips on first. Then attach the 1 1/2" squares to the corners of the spool tops, draw a diagonal line and stitch on it, cut off the two triangles of excess fabric from the back leaving a 1/4 allowance once you are happy that they are affixed correctly, then attach the top and bottom of the spool to the reel. I find that putting a pin in the seam at 1/4" allowance on the top/bottom and the same on the reel helps to make the join more accurate. Hope that helps.

Terri, Hearty congratulations to you on the birth of Rosalie. It is a lovely name and an old name. My husband's family have a Rosalie back in the 1850s. A long and happy life to her.

Thanks, Lynn. I'm always the one to take the photos & I usually hate any of me. But
my DH kinda tricked me on this one. When I saw it, instead of saying something like, oh, that's good,
I said oh, I don't even hate it.

Roseanne, I'm the same way. I am very hard pressed to find a pic of me when necessary because I avoid letting that happen at all costs! ops: your hubby did right by you and it's very nice to you without a camera to hide behind!

I was looking through the craft books section on blurb.com and found one by Barbara Brackman, 'Lately arrived from London' http://www.blurb.com/books/2106301 When I looked at the preview I was highly amused to see next to the copyright claims a silhouette of a girl with her hands on her hips and a dog bouncing at her feet with the words "I'll Just Do It Myself Press".

I have ordered myself a copy and it should be with me by the end of the month - made especially for me and not sitting in a book shop being read by everybody 8)
