Just heard from Jan who said " Let everyone know at TQS that I'm blown away at their love and support. "

She also said that it was OK to share her FaceBook entries:

Feeling a great sense of relief that my husband Rick is recovering well from surgery to remove the most urgent of two tumors on his brain. Sigh. The primary mass is in his lungs. They found another one in his neck during surgery, so there is a long road ahead of us. They're keeping him well sedated (sedation vacation) to allow him to rest well. We're taking one moment/day at a time here. Your good energies/thoughts/prayers are greatly appreciated. The tremendous love and support of my family and friends are helping to keep my head above water. I'll post updates as I am able.

Thank you for all of the messages of love, encouragement and prayers; they are precious to me. Rick has come out of surgery recovery well. He knows who we are and why he's in the hospital. This is good. Of course he is in a good deal of pain from the surgery. We are still waiting for the pathology report, which will tell us where we go from here. We're hoping to get the results tomorrow, but it could even be Friday. The doc assures us that it's important that the pathology process be done in a precise manner which takes time in order for accuracy. I'll do my best to be patient for a correct diagnosis, for sure. To Rita Conti, Gayle Simpson and all who are wondering why they didn't know about this before now.....the symptoms only presented themselves in the last week. Beginning with a headache that progressed during the week, to vomiting all day Sunday. When we decided that it no longer looked like the flu, I took him (well, the ambulance did because I was unable to get him into the car) to the ER on Monday after consulting with his doctor's office. And here we are. I'm tired tonight. I hope to respond to each email and message individually. In the meantime, know how much they mean. I feel your hugs *)*

Praying for Jan and her hubby Rick, for an encouraging pathology report, strength to go through this trial and to feel the love.

I'm sending prayers to God and good thoughts to all who are going through such difficult times. I hope everyone knows how much they are loved by our incredible TQS community.

Praying for all these needs. I have been away from TQS for a few days and am always surprised to return and find that my absence certainly doesn't mean the hurting for others stops. The real question is "Why am I surprised?" Every single person in the world is carrying a pain or a hurt from something. Sometimes it's our turn to help and sometimes it's our turn to ASK FOR HELP. Knowing help is this close and as close as a prayer is such a comfort. So....prayers lifted up.

Friends, I'm sad to say Cathy is back in the hospital and not doing well at all. Al is off work again and with her. I just want to sit down and cry. It is such a strange thing to happen to someone in the first place. I tell everyone I know to not let their dog lick their face because of this. Al said she is going to be in the hospital for a very long time. Please pray. Thank you all for being faithful.
                        Blessings,
                        Jane

Oh Jane, I am so sorry to hear this! Yes, this is such a strange thing to happen to anyone. I personally, have NEVER hear of it! Unless this is similar to when the kids go to the petting zoo and are cautioned not to pet the animals and then put their hand to their mouth. They can get giardia, and become quite ill. (And, dogs can carry giardia.) Is that what is happening? Is it a parasite that has taken up residence in Cathy's body? I will certainly be praying for her and Al!

I, too, am sad to hear that Cathy is back in the hospital. Being a huge dog person, I am also very curious of the details. Jane, do you know if Cathy had any pre-existing conditions that would have made her more susceptible to germs in general? Or did the dog carry some off-the-wall disease? Not really meaning to pry, just concerned to spread the info of the hazards without creating undue alarm - or perhaps alarm is appropriate.

I will keep Cathy in my prayers as well. All this discussion has made me curious about dog saliva though so I went searching. One thing I did find is if you feed your dog a raw diet of meat that you could get sick because of well -- raw meat and all having been in the dog's mouth. Overall though, it seemed if the dog was healthy and is up to date on shots and the person was healthy, the risk was small. Of course, all it takes is something horrible like Cathy's illness to make us a little more careful.

Here's an interesting article for those interested.

UPDATE: Okay this one is much more interesting and gives reason to not allow face licking.

JoJo, thanks for the links. I read them both. I have heard of a case of recurrent strep throat in people who sleep with their dogs. I never purposefully let Kalli lick me anywhere, but she's sneaky and quick!
At any rate, I feel just horrible about what has happened to Cathy and am praying for a quick and total recovery.
