Rita, you've really been working on your Celtic Solstice! I've only gotten 17 of the blocks made, although I took time out to make a special pillowcase for the pillow my grandson got for Christmas. It matches the design on the gold and black case of his new 3-D DS XL game. I had to invent the pattern, although once I got the design sewn, I followed some instructions I found online to put it together. (It was a little bit like quilting, don't you think? )
And finally, here are the first few blocks I put together for the Celtic Solstice. Some are going together better than others. These, of course, have not been sewn to each other.

Your grandson must have been delighted with his cool unique pillowcase Carol. And your Celtic Solstice is looking beautiful too. I love the way the blue circles happen all by themselves and the centre looks like jewels. You must be really pleased with it. Like you I am finding one of the blocks easier to assemble than the other. But I am not fretting too much about joining up every point. There is so much colour and detail in this quilt that really the Quilt Police would have to spend a long time examining it to find all my mistakes.  I have only 7 blocks left to assemble. I can't believe how quickly I have put them together. And I have had long breaks in between where I have even watched a couple of movies on TV.

Rita, I don't know how you are doing those blocks so quickly! I do two of them and I'm ready for a break. I'm chain piecing and using the blocks as leaders and enders for each other, but it's still slow. I have a LOT of places that don't match. I agree with you that those will be hard to see in the finished quilt, though. It is a VERY busy quilt!

Carole, your Celtic solstice looks fabulous. It is definitly going onto my 'to do' list, and I think that I will have to start digging through my stash just as soon as I have finished a new school skirt for Izzy - although if I started the quilt first I could use them and leaders & enders for the skirt - maybe not though as the skirt needs to be black and I don't think black thread would be good for the quilt, so I guess I had better be good this time :P

I love all of your Celtic Solstice quilts and also plan to make one for myself one day. It's a lot like a quilt that I pieced a while ago but haven't gotten around to quilting yet. Sorry I don't have a picture to share, but I used the "Faceted Jewels" pattern if you want to google some other quilts with this pattern. I like the squares that appear in the blocks in this one that aren't in the one I made. Maybe I'll get mine quilted this year.....

Carole, I love the Celtic Solstice blocks. The colors are fantastic. I will have to print off the pattern for it. I just can't start anything new right now. Must finish one mugrug and then get them mailed. My new years resolution is to finish some ufos before starting anything new. Must do my reels quilt, finish the applique and piecing on Ricky's summer quilt, and get some serious quilting done on the quilts hanging in my "to be quilted closet". When did time start going by so fast??? :? :?

Originally posted by loise98Hey, all you folks across the pond, do you use the phrase "Fudge Factor"?
Personally I would use the phrase to 'bodge' something, or to 'bodge it' meaning to make something that is a near fit. The original 'Bodger' was a man who lived in the woods and would turn (bodge) chair spindles (legs etc).
If it was in fabric for clothing I will add extra to seams for 'fitting/alterations/growth' but I would not deem that as 'fudging' - it is forward planning  . When I was on Savile Row I was taught to add extra to certain seams so that the suit could be enlarged or reduced if necessary, but these are garments that are built to last.
Other than that 'easing' is my best friend with fabric - it will fit because I say so!
Or buying extra fabric 'Just in case....'
