I missed a quilt I meant to admire. I went as far back as to see the tree of life by Lois. That was very nice as well. I am still at the point of having a tough time getting blocks to be the same size and getting seams to be 1/4" all the time, so it's nice to see so many people who have that down and I think the scrappy nature of this exchange makes me appreciate how beautiful scrap quilts can be.

I'd just wiggle them a bit, so it's right on the front. I had the same problem with my HST's, However most of the Wot Rotts were good.
That said, theoretically if you cut accurately, stitch accurately, press accurately then you would have the right size on the front & 1/4" seams on the back. But remember fabric does stretch, unlike paper.
It does come down to what you personally consider to be important to the finished item. With my embroidery, I was taught to keep the backs as neat as the front, and when you do 'both side's alike' embroidery this is vital, but from my dressmaking/tailoring when fitting the human body if you need to slightly adjust the seam so that the garment lies better over the body, then I will adjust the seam, even if it means that the seam allowance is now no longer perfect, because that is what will give the best look to the garment. My piecing comes somewhere between the two, and I do for my pleasure, rather than for others to judge, and can depend on how fussy I am feeling towards the project when I am working on it. Some days my 'tolerences' are more generous than others (as in oh ***** I need to finish this, or not)

It's a minor miracle my first quilt came out OK. I think the HST's in it were bigger so it was less dicey. I also hand embroidered but thankfully no one will ever see the back. You would be horrified Rosemary. Just kidding. But it is ugly underneath. I hadn't learned the art of fronts and backs looking the same for sure. I took a class two yrs ago but I never finished the piece and forget how to do it. We have a quilt show in November and I always feel guilty when I go. My family has to tolerate the obsession you know. This year I am taking an applique fusing class. I have no idea what to do. But it will be small so it's easy to finish. Jan

Well, it's not that active in terms of physical movement. I live in a split-level house, so I've kept my ironing board one level below my sewing room, so I have 7 steps to go up and down each time I have to press a seam. And I believe in pressing! That way, I hope to get my exercise, just not sure it's enough because unfortunately, somehow I am still getting puffier...(cuter way than saying 'fatter')
