Barbara, I wanted to try something different, I am not a City Girl, I love the county, so I ordered Wendy William's "Round the Garden" pattern and was thinking I could replace sky scrapers with Light Houses. This pattern is for Applica, and she used wool and a solid back ground. I have sky with clouds for the background, I guess I will have to wait and see if the building are the same size, and just use Applica instead of piecing. Do you think that might work? Thanks, Mary

Marypopn That is a really interesting idea to combine two of Wendy Williams patterns. That was the one I was looking at when I started thinking folk art style. I don't think the
houses are any where near the same size, but I did like the idea of doing it appliqué instead of freezer paper pieced. I plan to make samples of wedges done both ways.
I was thinking that as long as the wedge size is the same, you could adapt buildings to fit the space. I was even thinking of some barns if I go folk art. The barn would probably
span 2 or 3 wedges. Right now, my mind is just having fun. When it comes to really doing it, I might scale back. HelenW

Mary, it certainly appears the houses are not the same size, you will know on January 1. Using wool for the appliqué makes the cutting process faster, no seam allowances, but you have to finish the edges

This is one of Wendy Williams most well known patterns so you will have a lovely quilt whether you change the pattern or not.

Thanks so much for the information. I am planning to buy the kit and am on the email list for notification. I was getting worried I might not be able to get the kit so was working on a backup plan....

Thank you. I was looking at some grunge fabric and wondering if it would work, as well as trying to fit in some scrappy bits for extra texture. Thank you for the advice on different greens for the trees. I can find plenty of that in my stash. Really looking forward to starting da6 after New Year's day as we are several hours ahead of US time. Merry Christmas from New Zealand.

              hi guys.

I didn't get in on getting the fabric on time. Is there a place I can go to see what the fabric requirements are? Thanks.

Decided to go with flannel for my bird houses. Yes, I said bird houses. No skyscrapers in North Idaho. The city roads will turn into branches and the tree tops might turn into
leaves, will have to audition ideas. Have not picked a background fabric yet. Have not decided whether to go half size or full size. Lots will change before I begin, it always does.

What colour 80wt aurifil cotton should I get? Am not sure what it should be matching for the applique.

JessieCrawford, Usually you match the applique piece you are stitching onto something. If it were the green semi-circles for trees on a background, your
thread would match the green tree. HelenW

The tree trunks are appliqué, I used black thread on the pre-made black bias. The only other appliqué are the trees, as HelenW said, and I used one green that blended with both greens.

Thank you Barbara and Helen. I wasn't sure which parts were appliquéd.

I have also ordered the Round the Garden pattern by Wendy Williams. The finished size of that quilt is a bit smaller. I think you might be able to scale it up or down as needed on a copier to get the appropriate sizes.
