I recently had a blood test and my Dr said my cholesterol was a little high. I asked her for some advice on lowering it Her reply: Don't ask me look on the internet!!

Think I'll look for a new Dr as well

My Dr told me Abosolutely no more than 5 minutes at most in the tanning bed and reccomended sunblock. This was recomended for bad days and the winter months only. In the summer she said to be outside as much as possible. She would preffer me on a sun porch or a sun room in the winter. However, I do not have access to one. The nuerologist that I go to is also doing an MRI on my neck. She is the one who believes that my Thyroid is being attacked and therefor is checking my autoimmune system. I too have tested just with in the normal range for hypothyroid. I also take this drink called Simple Greens it has a full days fruits and veggies in one glass. It looks like seaweed but it doesn't taste too bad. I have felt a little better since I started it. Hope everyone feels better, Rachel

The 5 minutes on a bad day isn't a bad thing unless every days a bad day. I just had a cousin "over use them" is all for tanning every day, never less than 15 minutes at a time alot days, then 30 minutes, she got to where she thought she could do 30 minutes every day with out any future harm. She kept a tan year round.
I think Hot tubs are great too. The sun light does help alot, not meaning the direct sun, though I do Love direct sun light,I know it's not good either but makes me feel good. I have over exposed myself to the Sun through out the years. I Love the beach & Sun.
Sorry to hear about you having thyroid troubles, have they ever told you green tea was good for this. The drink you're having doesn't sound very good at all. I wish you all the best.

          Kathy,
I do drink green tea quite a bit. I love it. The Simpe Greens has a minty flavor to it so it only looks gross. other than that it really isn't too bad. My biggest down fall is coffee. I love the stuff. A couple weeks ago the furnace broke sunday followed by the coffee maker monday morning. It was -8 degrees I didn't know if I was freezing to death or going though caffine detox. What a shock for the system. It took 10 days to get the furnace fixed and my neice gave me a coffee maker my 5th day through it. She felt bad for my hubby. He was buying me a cup of coffee every morning when he took the kids to school. Were they able to do anything to reverse the organ thing by the way. What kind of prognosis did they give her. I keep telling my SIL to quit tanning but she is too vane. That and I am just a nurse who knos nothing. We really do not get along very well. She is competitive and I am not. It drives her nuts that I congratulate her when she brags instead of trying to one up her. Keep smiling Rachel

            Rachel,
Tell your SIL to go to a dermatologist for a full body check. Tell her that she needs to so she won't start to get old looking from the tanning.(You said she was vain) That might at least get her to the office.
I used to work with a woman who was only 37, but she looked at least 45!! The tan dried her out, even with all the moisturizers she packed on. Poor girl-she was in complete denial of getting older. She even dressed like a 20 year old.

Her prognosis was not reverseable and the news was very sad. I have no idea what the Dr. called this by name. I have used the tanning beds alittle myself with precautions, I hope. I can't say to much on tanning with the sun because I use to love tanning abit myself, I'm not so much on the tan these days but I love to soak up the sun still,"heat". The sun can make people age quicker. (I hope your thyroid troubles get much better).

LOL, Dressing like a 20 year old. "Being Comfortable with the skin were in". Heck, I would still wear a bikini to the beach if I had the bod! LOL! ops:

That's kind of scary (the Brittany Spears busdriver thing). I personally think all busdrivers are scary these days though so no offense to those of you who maybe one. After you get hit by one bus one day and then almost hit coming home from the hospital that same day. You become a bit skittish. By the way I read that Brittany is on Depoprovera and Cymbalta. One is for birth control the other is for depression. Both have very powerful side effects. I know this for a fact. They both caused me to develope alternate personalities. These personalities were very bizzare and very destructive. It almost cost me my marriage. I was given them back to back it was the worst year of my life. I wish her family and doctors would look at her meds. So many of her mental problems most likely could be resolved. Oh and my SIL would think I am trying to sabotage her beauty if I told her to stop tanning. She seriously has issues.

For the SIL who uses the tanning machine, have her take a look at Robert Redford when he was in The Sting, and then a look at him as he is today. The poor man spent way too much time in the sun, and now he looks a lot like an alligator handbag.

Better yet I personally think it is funny that Keith (oh what's his name). The Rollingstones guitarist? Is the new spokesman for Lewis Volton (I'm sure that is spelled wrong). He looks like he belongs in one of L.V. signature series. :P By the way I had one of my many brain dead moments yesterday. I gave the quilt to my sons class for the raffle. I forgot to take a photo and forgot to sign and date it. Way to! So I am going to send my son in with the camera tomarrow and hope he will get the photo. I probably wont get the chance to sign or date it. Oh well.

Just got home from the dermatologist's office. Had to go for my 18 month check after having had skin cancer in Sept 2006. I'm clean!! One more 6 month check and if it's good, I can spread them out to a year.
I didn't really expect to have anything but I like being sure.
