Hi y'all! Just a little update...The wind is up, the water's up, and visibility is down. I've been taking pictures of a small island from the hotel window to watch the progress of the water. Should be interesting! We've lost the TV signal but still have internet access. For now anyway. The power has flickered a few times but has stayed on. For now. DH said we've gone back and forth from "shore power" to emergencey generators a few times. We're pretty comfortable here. FIL is of course worried about his house. Dixie is unhappy just cuz she's not home. Me-I'm okay and feeling pretty calm. DS is getting pretty bored so he goes for walks. Hope he stays out of trouble! Actually he's a real good kid. Trouble is the last thing I worry about when it comes to sonuvaquilter! It occurs to me that I might not have told y'all who's with us...DH (Dave), me, FIL (Dick or Dad), and DS (sonuvaquilter/Russell), and of course the furbaby Dixie.
There are some folks without electricity in the area. Some people had to be rescued on the Jordan River which is west of here. Hwy 90 on the beach is closed due to flooding. Listening to the news Dick's area is getting water. His house is on stilts so maybe the water won't get in. It looks like we'll be here at least another day. We're comfortable but want to get home. Wating and worrying wears us out.

Sherry, at least you are safe and sound. Hopefully it won't be too long before you are back at home and Dixie is happy. I thought sonovaquilter was away at college. Did he ever send us a farewell message. If so I missed it. Maybe he can compose one now while he is just waiting around. Judy in AZ

Sonuvaquilter was home for Labor Day weekend. He could have stayed at the school but it would've meant staying in a shelter situation. Russ said "I'm comin' home!!" I'll nag him about the blog thing!

Here is west central Mississippi (Vicksburg) it has been raining all afternoon, but nothing really hard, and the wind is gusting at times. If the wind gets too high we will probably lose power. I think the forecast is for rain for several more days. I talked to my sister in Baton Rouge tonight and she said they got hit pretty bad. Trees and power lines down, roads closed, and her electricity had been off since 3:00 this afternoon. She personally didn't have any damage, but her neighbor had a large oak tree fall on their house.

Louisiana got slammed. Again. Here in Biloxi things are calming down kinda. The wind is still blowing pretty good, but I didn't have to brace myself when I took Dixie out to potty. We're going home in the morning. The neighbor said our house is fine. FIL's house has water in his workshop, but only a couple of feet. His shop is under the house which is on stilts. Not too bad. The casino has minimal damage. Leaks and ramp issues. All in all we came out pretty good. There are flooded houses in the area but none of them are mine.

Y'all have been so nice through this. I was a nervous wreck and I really appreciate your prayers and support. Please continue to pray for the folks who were so badly treated by Gustav. I never realized until the last couple of years how long it takes to recover from a really bad storm. The folks west of here have a long hard road ahead of them.

                          Love y'all,
Sherry in S MS, oh so very ready to get back home in the morning!

Hopefully the worst is over and while it was not as bad as it could have been it was still bad. Everyone is in my prayers. Knowing people in the midst of a hurricane puts a whole different level of stress on watching the news about it.
