Yes, Kathy--that was the word I was looking for--a fascinating "fascinator".

Maureen~ I left a Happy Birthday message to you at the party...and it was there...then it disappeared. So, at the expense of a possible duplication "HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Hope it has been great!

        Thank you Charae.
Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year which is only an hour away in Scotland at the moment.

Lois, Rita, Wendy - I love your portraits! Ritzy - thanks for the family portrait - how long will it take you to get that onto fabric? LOL

Rita, I cry and get the goosebumps whenever I hear you sing. Thanks!

Happy New Year everyone, and Maureen, Happy Birthday - just wondering how close to midnight were you born?

Nancy - I hear ya....you have my sympathies. So far, I think I'm using about a tenth of the website.

Still a few hours to go here, but I doubt I will be awake when the bells chime.
          All Blessings,
          Salut!

All we need now is a tall dark handsome fella to cross the threshold with a piece of coal....

Is that an omen of good luck? Sounds like a romance brewing, he comes with something to 'light your fire'. :woohoo:

As far as I remember it is Scottish and is known as 'First Footings' and is for bringing good luck for the following year. Unfortunately I don't remember much else about it and DH is in bed, so I cannot ask him about it now, but will get back to you later on today when I find out (unless someone has time to google it) But pretty certain that whisky is also involved

Wow! It's been a busy day on this forum site!
Lois, loved your self portrait, especially the thimble. Ritzy you and your grandkids are so sweet and funny! Rita your portrait is very nice, it looks like you! And thank you for the singing. It made me so happy plus the scenes of Powerscourt in the background. It reminded me of the lovely lunch and walk about we had when my husband and I visited. Thanks for the nice memory! Wendy, you over achiever with 2 portraits. Both very different and wonderful.
I love this site because it gives me friends like you.
Now for my self portrait. Just since our move to Washington state my hair turned curly and I no longer had a job. So things are different for me in a good way. My self portrait signifies my new hair, the love of my husband and children and my love of quilting, friends, and life in general. Purple is my favorite color and my mouth is a tilted heart because I always try to speak with love and/or humor. It was fun to make, once I got out of the way of myself! Thanks Rita for challenging us.

Happy New Year everyone! See you on TQS!!!
