I just have a little bit of quilting left to finish and I should have that by July 1, but won't have the edge finished yet.

          Morning all.

This is my book interpretation for The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

I was amazed when we had a demonstration at our quilt group. So in case you haven't seen it before its a fresh flower and leaves sandwiched between bondaweb and tulle to cover then quilted and embellished. I expect the flower will go brown and turn to dust soon but it's holding up so far. Perhaps I'll take a photo and print onto card for birthday cards then it'll last.

It's beautiful Wendy. It will be interesting to see how long the flower lasts. I have not been free to contribute this time so I have no show and tell sorry, but I look forward to seeing what everybody else does. :cheer:

Wendy, It's beautiful. Lovely interpretation of Secret Garden. I love, love, love pansies and purple are my favorite. I am so curious about the technique. I am not familiar with bond a web, but I am thinking that involves heat. If so, I am surprised that did not deteriorate the color immediately. I'd be tempted to do more and experiement with more thread painting using the natural flower coloration as a guide. That way when the natural color from the flower fades you still have the thread color. Just a "what if".

Like Rita, I just did not have time for this one. Even if there are no more entries the whole thing was worth it just to see your pansies, Wendy. Thank you for posting and getting this thing going. I bet LuAnn would enjoy these challenges.

Wendy, it looks like everything you touch turns out beautifully... the pansies are so gorgeous. What a treat!

It's beautiful, Wendy!! I've seen a technique where you rub the flowers on the fabric to transfer the color and had thought they said the color remains, but I don't remember if they did something to set them. It'll be interesting to see how your piece survives.

I'll get pictures and post mine later today.

Okay, I took some pictures. The book I chose was my favorite book in 2nd or 3rd grade: "Matthew Looney's Voyage to the Earth"

For those who don't know the book (which is probably most of you), I've put some explanation about my image from the story on my blog here.

Here are pictures of my quilt called "My Murtle":

I still need to trim it and finish the edge, which will probably be faced. And I'll probably add some tiny buttons for the eyes. I need to get this finished up soon since I've entered it in the county fair and it's due at the end of this month.

                        Wendy,
Oh my, oh my,,,oohhhing my! I am awed, if that's actually a word? It is BEAUTIFUL. I just can't express how blown away I am. Really, not trying to be all drama here, but in all honesty I really did say a bunch of 'oh mys' when I saw the picture. Your tulle must have had some shimmer to it. The piece has ethereal qualities. Do you want my home address? Or do I have to arm wrestle Lois first?

It's fabulous Nancy. Love the turtle and her surroundings. What are the little circles on either side of her tail trail? Are they meant to be turtle eggs? Are they thread circles or buttons of some sort? Can't quite make them out. Looks like a fun story.

                            Nancy,
I love your turtle and I'm inspired by your piecing of the sand and water. Did you piece improvisationally, or plan it out?

I am amongst such talented people!

Hi Rita - The little circles are supposed to represent her footprints. They are just made with black thread.

Hi LuAnn - It's actually supposed to be in Antarctica, so it is water and snow rather than sand (not important, but thought I'd mention that). The snow and water aren't actually pieced. Instead, I chopped up some fabrics into small pieces and set them on the fusible side of some heavyweight fusible interfacing, and then ironed them in place, gluing some pieces that were small or overlapped others too much. Then put tulle on top and stitched the fabric in place. You can see the details of what I did on my blog. There's a link in my original post, but I should probably test it to make sure that it works.

                                Thanks for your kind comments!!
