I really LOVE the idea of picking one of Lotti or Rita's blog photos for a practice challenge! Hope we can do that when there's a quorum available. Rosemary, do take care of yourself and we can certainly wait until you're ready to play again with a photo challenge. Lois, the Susquehanna Valley fall scenery is so perfect for one of the Karen Eckmeier landscape quilts! I suspect even a dreary day in Ireland would produce a pretty landscape nevertheless! Is there a place for snow and fire in the same landscape quilt? Marilyn, I hope this chance snow is just that because it would be nice to enjoy fall weather for a while. Please don't be cross, but we are having a ten-day wave of spring/summerlike weather here with 70 degrees and sunshine. We are trying to enjoy summer walks in our neighborhood that already has fall colors all around--really strange... but I won't complain!

Lois, I like that idea. Lotti, would you like to oblige - your photos are soooo much better than mine? Renata enjoy that weather while you can. We have had a wet day here all day and so dull that I had to have the lights on all the time.

Marilyn - What a beautiful retreat location!! Isn't it fun to get away and share your passion with friends??

Lotti - Thanks for the inspiration! I'll definitely think about it, but don't know if I'll get anything on paper because of Houston. It's a beautiful picture!

Holly smokes! No pun intended for those dealing with fires. After such a quiet time, out of a sudden posts are flying left and right. Not complaining  , not at all  . Sorry I'm late posting about my possible design ops: . DH got back last friday. Got busy trying to caught up with a couple of things (see quilt sampler thread http://forum/the-classrooms-discussi...6-laura-nownes).

Besides the wonderful batik colors, I noticed there were several motifs/designs in the Batik Beauty quilt. The first thing that poped up to me, was flowers. Next crosses, small blue ones and elongated ivory ones. Then windmill/spinning wheels. And also a wedding ring/circle like, also from the ivory background fabric. Since flowers were the first thing I thought of,I decided I would like to work on a technique called Colourque by Hellen Stubbings http://hugsnkisses.typepad.com/hugsf...-tutorial.html. Would hand dye some fabric using the colors from the inspiration quilt, in a pale palette as background and then work random flower with an intense/saturated look.

                          Nancy, love your little quilt!

Lois, wonderful photos. How nice to go for a drive and enjoy some green

Marilyn, sorry about the snow. I only like it for about 15 min and as long as I don't have to shovel it  . So glad you had a good time at your retreat and sounds like you'll have some yummies for winter time

Rosemary, still praying for you all and sending healing thoughts for your DH

Lotti, thank you! That's a great photo and some ideas are starting to take form. I think I even have some fabric that might work...

Hey Marilyn, thanks for taking us along to hat retreat... Love love love the storm picture ( various ideas trying to get themselves into order from that one alone ). And I love tat show and tell quilt, reminds me of some of the fifties and sixties fabrics in my mom's old stash - well not really stash, it was mainly her old clothes which I 'borrowed' and so loved wearing when I was in my mid teens... As I'm taller than she is I had to stop wearing them as she had been tiny when young and the waist was just toooooooooo tight when it ended up on my ribs... Old memories - and good ones - I still love vintage clothing but unfortunately today they would never fit
