I didn't draw anything out, but my first thought was an improvisationally pieced red background with a slight gradation of darker fabric at the bottom and lighter fabric at the top. Then, appliqued on top would be green fish with blue bubbles. The piece would be called "Red Sea".
My second thought was a modern style quilt. It would be mostly red. Then, across the quilt about 1/3 of the way up would be a band of different length green/blue vertical strips. I hope that makes sense. I don't have a name for this quilt.
Obviously, I was heavily influenced by the colors in "Red Fury".

I have a photo I purchased from a local artist at a fall fair 2 yrs ago pinned on my tackboard . I asked
permission to use it as a quilt design (granted ) 'cause I really could see the quilt ! Well, it fits into the
situation here.....it is looking up, thru reddish leaves that are edged with hoar frost ...with blue sky
surrounding and bits of blue showing thru !! My other thought had a school of spawning kokanee salmon
swirling in a stream when seen from above. It's a sight from memory when years ago we were able to
catch them ....beautiful colors of red, orange and the brown and blue of the stream. Well...Red Fury, indeed !!

When I saw the #1000100, I tried really hard to ignore the title, Red Fury, and when I was finally able to do that, I kept seeing tulips in my imagination, which to me, meant springtime and so I did a simplistic design in my Bernina Quilt software (which did not allow me to do anything but a stylized version of what I might do in a quilt but was good enough for display purposes (since I'm not actually making this quilt).
The tulips are in different shades of red, orange and possibly magenta and are stylized in rows but to render the concept, the realistic tulips are in the foreground. The blue in the Red Fury quilt reminded me of blue skies and the green of the leaves and stems of the tulips. The border of Red Fury quilt reminded me of a Delft blue color and that is why you see a windmill in the background, reminiscent of something from the Netherlands. The real problem with this interpretation is that the original design may have had nothing to do with springtime, or someone might interpret my quilt as related to the Netherlands, and therefore, my rendition could very easily send the next quilter off into never-neverland... which brings me, at least, to the conclusion, that I would try to make a quilt that has some traditional aspects possibly, but only secondary to the message I am receiving when I look at the quilt that comes to me. I would really try hard to interpret a message that the quilt I receive gives me. Just a thought... and if I rambled and this post makes no sense to you, let me know...

All of you have done extremely well. Very interesting.

I started off by trying to work out how I would replicate Red Fury, and worked out that it was a tipsy 9patch created from mostly reds with 1 green & 1 dark blue. Then I thought no we are not replicating we are supposed to be drawing inspiration.
So I had a re-think -
Colours - she has used the complimentary colors of red & green, lots of red & a tiny bit of green. I considered what do I actually have in my stash and remembered that I had a heap of blues, so I decided to use them, with one piece of soft peach and may be a very dark red.
Pattern - she has used a tipsy 9 patch, I fancied something a bit more complicated, but still based on the 9 patch layout, so I went hunting and found one called Friendly Hand, which is a 4 patch in the outer 4 corners, hst's on the middle edges and a plain square in the centre.

Fascinating how you came up with that Rosemary.
To me it looked like bright pink rhodedendrums with a smidgeon of sky peeping through and grass.
I would have appliqued one or two bright flowers and a couple of leaves on a sky blue background and done lots of stitching like on the cover of quilting arts june/july 2012 but more red. Link yeh right I can sew just like that.

Maureen, the Bamboo is a tool to use with your computer where you can edit, paint, draw, write and simplify existing images and new ones. I used it do draw over the photo of Red Fury. I haven't used it much yet. I could have used a thinner black line - I discovered afterwards.
It's really interesting to see what everybody was able to interpret from the photo. And great that we all had different ideas. Renata, I don't think it matters if we are taken down a different path by somebody else's interpretation of what they have seen. You can see from what we have done today that we all see things in a completely different way, and that's part of the fun.

Quilt name and color were not what draw my attention. The light blue/turquoise (it's like it looks to me in my iPad), the black & white inner border and the wonky looking blocks is what I focused on. Those were the only light fabrics in a sea of medium-dark and dark colors and a resting place for the eyes. The wonky squares made me think of Lotti's swirls quilt and that's how I came about with my design.
Wonky swirl/pineapple blocks with dark red in the center. Shades of turquoise and royal/saphire blue for the swirl part and black print on white background fabrics for the corners of the swirl block that will create a secondary design of on point squares in between the swirl blocks. Same dark red for a 1.5" border and a white background with red and black print for a 3.5" border. Probably the same red for binding.
My laptop just quit on me so, no drawing but hope all this makes sense.
Grate ideas everyone! Amazing how each of us interpret things so differently and no one has come up with something related to each other design. This is been very educational and a great exercise for "the real thing"

This has been fascinating following along with all your conversations and plans. It will be so cool to see the end quilts. Just like playing "telephone" it should be VERY interesting to see how it changes. I kinda played along in my head with this practice one and saw Raspberries. Lots of raspberries growing.Lyndhurst, Ohio USA - East Side Suburb of Cleveland, Ohio
