Lorna, I love the pattern you have chosen and the quilt looks really great. Presumably you are doing all those baptist fans by hand? Labour of love that is.
I was not involved in this exchange but I have found it so inspirational to see what everybody has done with the humble HST. It would be so great if everybody could post a photo in the Show and Tell area so that others can see what you have done too.

Rita?! If it hadn't been for your sig block, I wouldn't have recognized you. Love the new picture. I definitely did not leave enough time to do the quilting by hand. I am quilting these on my domestic machine as usual. I don't think I have hand quilted anything since about 2005. I agree, everyone has done an amazing job of bringing life to these little HSTs and strips.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
Thanks Rosemary. I like both of those a lot. I was thinking along the same lines of repeating the fan motif somehow. Though had also considered a cable and feather intertwined. Partly because I hadn't done that before and also I thought the lines of the cable would echo the fans. It was the quilts at the York Quilt Museum that gave me the idea to use the Baptist Fan. Several of those used that as an overall pattern.

Lorna your SOTT quilt is beautiful!! I also think a BF variation would look nice in the border. A feather and cable would be great too, but might be harder to execute. The brown fabric in the border is a tad busy and you might not see the lovely feather work as well as you would see the structure of the BF's there. Whatever you do I know it'll be wonderful!

Lorna - I was planning on posting this anyway, but now seems as good time as any.
Traditional design from the North Country (UK) - Weardale Chain
If you look at the shape drawn in green you will see that it is based on the old flat iron as a template.
Same pattern adapted for machining
This can be done in six passes, using a walking foot and sewing around templates (if you have location marks for placing the templates).
These are the templates I used for my flying geese border
You can easily make your own templates to fit your space by folding a sheet of paper in four and drawing & cutting the shape, but don't stop with the first one - this was no 3 attempt before I was happy with the curves.

Lorna, I also love your BF design for this quilt and agree with Michelle that because of the print in the fabric on your borders, your quilting will not show up much.
It also might be difficult to see marking lines, so consider doing something simple that doesn't require much pre-marking.
You are doing great!!

Love the quilts coming out of this humble (in the beginning, anyways) exchange! I had decided to hand quilt mine, and we have a local guild show on May 4-7, so I'm stitching 'round the clock, so I can put it up. I may have to end up putting on the binding after doing as much as I can for the book, but it will be finished for the show. This is my first big hand-quilted quilt and the stitches are very varied! Almost as varied as the HSTs themselves. I think I need to take a course. Oh well, it speaks love to me, but will never win a prize. I'm just so proud to tell everyone about our exchange. I have organized one in our quild, so hopefully the book will give them lots of ideas!...now off to stitch!
Did someone say Houston? Hummm. Would it be great to meet as many exchange sisters as possible and have them sign the book, kinda like the way we used to sign each other's year books? When Lotti was visitng here from Switzerland, I got her to sign her HST!

I am taking pictures of my Stars Around the World quilt for the book. I just reread the requirements and have a question.
The guidelines state: "Digital photos should be at least 4 MG (megapixel) but no larger than 8 MG saved as a JPEG file."
I used two different cameras with different settings. Some of my pictures are between 1.5 MB and 2.5MB and the others are smaller, between 400 KB and 500KB.
I don't know what a MG is in relation to a MB and a KB... so I don't know if my pictures are too large, too small or just right! LOL I sure hope they are okay, as I spent over 4 hours today taking and editing my six pictures.
Anyone know if I am good or need to retake my pics??

Michelle, this is what Carol had to say about your question:
If you don't mind just tell them to send their best pictures of the quilts. I will let them know if they are okay for the book. So far all the pictures have been very good. There have been only a few that I have had to ask for redo's.
Submissions are really coming in now. Lilo will be posting a reminder on TQS since this is the final week. I will try to reply to each one to let them know I have received them. After May 1, I am planning on compiling a list of all the submissions to make sure I have not missed anyone. When I get it done I will post it on the forum. I will let you know so everyone can make sure there name is on it. There will be instructions on what to do if I did not get their submission. I don't want anyone to be left out.
Anyone that would like to have a copy of the book is welcome to purchase one. I don't know if it is possible to get an idea of how many that is. It will help lower the cost somewhat the more copies are printed.
Maybe once I get it assembled and sent to the publisher for I will have an idea of what the cost will be. It all depends right now on how many more quilts will come in and how many pages it ends up being. Please feel free to tell every one this. I should have a better idea of pages around May 15th.
