Carol, I love your pattern. I'm still trying to determine the background fabric I want to use in mine--at least I'm getting closer to starting!! I'd like to get it completed in time for your book also.

Carol, your quilt is beautiful! I sure hope to have my projects finished in time for the 1/1/12 deadline so they can be featured in your documentation. I can't believe how much fun I have had with those HSTs!

I think helping to get our SOTTS project going was one of the smartests things The Quilt Show could have done. Now for sure we will all keep renewing our memberships! We have to keep in touch with our new sisters!

Paula, if I remember correctly, AARJ didn't really start the exchange. It was a grass-roots phenomenon that just snow-balled after we watched the TQS episode #802 with Edytar Sitar last January.

I remember that Ricky and Alex were in Africa on their quilt safari when a suggestion was made on the forum to do an exchange. Snowball is the right word, it just took off! Within a week it was huge. What a great idea that was, too. Kathy

Whoever started that ball rolling had a great idea--I can thank Paula for asking me if I had watched the program--the rest is history!!

I think it was Ricky who casually suggested we start an HST triangle exchange after Edyta's presentation.

You are right Shirley!!! At minute 49 in the episode Ricky did mention it! And aren't we glad that he and Alex and Edyta sent HSTs for us!!

My quilt is finished, but after I washed it I found that it had BLED! There are some places on the front and 6 places on the back where fabrics bled through to the back. I soaked it in Synthrapol and got some of it out. I'm pretty discouraged, and afraid to soak it one more time in case there is MORE bleeding. It's been dried in the drier because I was afraid of the wet fabric bleeding more. I may just chalk it up to live and learn- not everyone pre washed their fabrics. I'll get a picture of it up maybe tomorrow.
The quilting turned out wonderful, and I'll also get a closeup of that to post.

Kathy, have you ever tried Woolite's Dye Magnet dye-trapping sheets? I've used them when I had a top-loading washing machine where the water filled up and laundry items were soaking in water and then agitated. It's a great product for catching dyes in the water. I know this isn't very helpful now, but maybe it might be for a (OMG!) second rinse! So sorry about the bleeding problem. Bummer!

                      Hugs,
                      Shirley

When in doubt about bleeding fabrics, I always wash with Synthrapol and a couple of color catchers. I did that with "It's A Small World" and didn't have any sign of bleeding.

Check here for a description of how Synthrapol works: http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/2127-AA.shtml

Well, I did wash it with Synthrapol and color catchers. It still bled. I might try some spot cleaning with Synthrapol.

Kathy, I know that is distressing! Did you use HOT water with the Synthrapol??? I hope you are able to get the bleeds out!

I used hot water the second time. When I get home today I'm going to try a spot clean on one of the worst ones. On the back you can see clearly a pink triangle! I'm trying to be philosophical about it. As Rosemary said, perhaps they just want to be close to each other!
