My temporary design wall is up and my stars are in place. I looked around for a spot where I could close the door so I could take my time with the layout and I found the almost perfect wall in the guest room. I don't know why I hadn't noticed it before since that corner used to be where I did all of my sewing, and my ironing board was in a different room and my cutting table was in the kitchen. I guess I got lots of exercise back then! I love these flannel backed tablecloths. I used Command Strips across the top, blue painter's tape down the sides and safety pins to hold the 2 tablecloths together. No nails or tacks needed. In my younger days I would take the bed apart and place it against a wall for a clearer view, but then I would have to figure out what to do with the stuff under the bed! My 6' ladder needs to stay hidden. I've had it for quite a few years now because noone but me knows where it is.
My blocks are now cut into triangles and the squares are cut for the final border. I layered 2 blocks right sides together for cutting to make sure that I would get the proper amount of mirror images. The strip sets aren't perfect but I will just give that bias edge a little tug if needed to lines up the seams. And when I go to the final assembly there are no seams to match except where they are against the stars or the final border. The 14 extra blocks are left uncut just in case I need to use some of them to replace blocks that don't work. My next job is to separate the blocks for the 4 quadrants of the quilt and hope that I am going to like the different looks on the opposite corners as I will be using the mirror images. If not I will need to make another 86 blocks and I really don't want to do that!

Thanks for all of your nice comments about my quilts.
My batik triangles and strips are now sewn into squares and all I have left to do is sew 120 blocks together to finish the quilt assembly. With my design wall nowhere near a table and no room to put one, I came up with a solution to pin these together without getting a major back or neck ache. A box on top of the bed was the perfect table height. I won't tell you how much pinning I did before coming up with this solution.
I ended up with 20 extra blocks because I had to make a few more to have the right colors and I have an idea what I'm going to do with them. They are already cut into smaller pieces and were on my design wall for awhile but I had to put them away as I have way too many projects going right now and this one will have to wait. Actually the class I will be taking with Jacqueline de Jonge next month is what made me put this away. I needed time to redesign the pattern that I'm going to do as I'm using it to make a quilt for my sister and I wanted to do something different for the outside border. We will just be working on the center of the quilt for the class which I've also made a minor change in so I don't have to do set-in seams or add beads.
But I did find a way to use the leftover HST's from my other quilt that I had saved for a label that I decided not to make. I didn't have enough so made a few more and used all of them in this quilt except for Alex and Ricky's signed ones that I obviously couldn't cut into 4 pieces. They will be used on the label. Margo's and Edyta's are cut up and on the front. See if you can find them. The quilt which measures about 13" square isn't quilted yet but I love the striped binding I found in my stash and wanted to see how it would look. I also used a striped binding on the larger HST quilt, much faster than the scrappy binding I was thinking of using. It's a good thing my fabric is in clear bins so I can easily see it or I might not have thought of that. It still has to be sewn to the back and needs a label, then it will be done.

Annis, your quilts are beautiful - can't wait to see the batik strip one finished. Which Jacqueline De Jonge quilt are you making? I made "Joy" and love it. I used all batiks, mainly from my stash. The main challenge was getting 50-60 fabric pieces in "rainbow color order" and keep them that way - my design wall was a "don't go near it" zone while working on that quilt.
