Geneva and Donna, both beautiful--amazing to see how these bold colors look against a light (Geneva) versus a darker (Donna) background. So fun to see what you come up with--thanks for sharing!

Both of these are so beautiful! It is VERY interesting to see how the different color combinations work. I am just about ready to start on my spike circle, and I suspect I will be surprised by my own color choices - for some reason it is hard for me to envision the end result.

WOW! I love both colorways... As well as the others that were posted on the Show & Tell.

I might join the fun, however, I don't have the pattern. thinking I might draw my own Mariner's compass and spike circle, but follow the technique.

Tomorrow, I'm visiting a quilt shop in the Palmetto area, I think I'll look for some "fancy" background fabric.

Just visited the Show & Tell. Wow! It's so tempting. Why oh why do I think I have time to do everything when most of the time it seems I move at a turtle's pace. Beautiful work ladies!

Love seeing the progress everyone is making. Got the spike ring made today and hope to attach to the star ring on Wednesday. Anyone have a tip for when they press with the iron...Haven't seen anything on the DVD about pressing with an iron.

I did not use the iron as much a I usually do. She stresses finger pressing. After I stitched it I ran a small rounded tool between the middle and seam allowance. It rounded it out and made it look better. I can't remember what the tool is called. It is plastic, flat and rounded. I think it is used to make a mark or crease on fabric .

I seem to have this charity quilt I must finish first! Just the way my brain works.

I have raided a friends stash and added to my fabrics so eaager to begin. Traveling next week. I'm glad we have a little time. And glad to have the advantage of those who have already finished and have suggestions.

They all look so good!! I can't wait.

Thanks everyone. The finger pressing is very helpful. You don't need to press with an iron all that much. Just when a section is done. I'm working on the flying geese now. I want to change the center fabric area and leave off the 2 sashings around the geese. I would like more of my focus fabric to show. We'll see how it goes! I'm working on a 90" x90" bed quilt for the guest room also. Hopefully I'll get that done this week and then I can concentrate on the happiness quilt.

                          Happy quilting!

Thank you for the comments on pressing. Pretty much what I was doing. Here is a photo of the spikes. I tried this section leaving on the quarter inch seam allowance on the paper when piecing the spikes and just cut the circle from that on the outside. I had trimmed the quarter inch off inside the circle (don't ask me why) so had to stitch on paper for that part. Don't know that it makes a difference one way or the other.

I have not ironed it yet but here it is. Now if I can remember how to post the picture.
