Rosemary, I agree with Wendy. I give DH a reasonable amount of time, then attempt it myself. If I mess it up he fixes it because he knows he had plenty of time to do it for me. My DH bought a new battery operated circular saw over a year ago "in case he decides to get into wood working again". The box remains unopened. And he HAD to have it that day!! Gotta love them though. That is why when DS comes home for a visit he asks me what I need done and him and DH get it done. I have wanted a new clothesline for years. The old one was removed when we remodeled years ago. Now I realize I do not want to spend time out in the 95 degree heat to hang clothes. I would rather be inside sewing. Where it is cool!!! I scratched the clothesline off my want list.

Hi again Wendy,
Yes managed it this morning! Got myself into trouble yesterday when I was searching for a specific piece of fabric for a retreat next week-end and ended up up-ending all my fabric bins! NOT a good thing to do with something in the oven (burnt but eaten) and a mailbox overflowing after nearly 3 weeks away for family re-union. Amazing how much fabric a woman can collect. Mind you I emptied 4 bins by folding nicely and transferring stuff to a black bin liner - how did my knitting yarn end up amongst my fabrics????? and bagging up all my bag fabrics to go into the loft until I next have the desire to play that game. I also ended up with a considerable amount of bits that needs cutting on my Sizzix for scrap quilts if I ever get around to make them - oh dear; White Rabbit syndrome is never far away is it ;-)
I'll pop over to the next link you posted here (am I on a kind of treasure trail here???????? Is there more fabric at the end???????? Are you determined that I get the hang of this new forum by leading me along???????)

Ok everybody,
Those New Years resolutions about getting things done, not starting too many more, and letting go of stuff we no longer are interested in, have been happening. I just want to make sure that if anyone hasn't joined in on the virtual retreats we've been doing they aren't left out.
So, I'm back over here with a request for some possible help I may need. I figure I'd better ask now, because when I actually need it, I won't be able to see my way clear to ask!!
That longarm quilting machine is being delivered tomorrow after lunch. Don't know who's having lunch, I'll be too excited to eat!
Then I have to finish clearing out the room for MISS LILA, and the crew that will put things in place on Friday! Another exercise in patience. I have informed my Darlin' Hubby's that we's grillin for the crew on Friday. I don't want anybody running off to some restaurant and getting a few drinks in 'em before finishing up! Afterwards we may open a bottle of wine to toast the addition, but I'll pass on the cigars. Never was much of a smoker of anything! LOL
So, if you don't hear from me by next week Tuesday please alert the athorities in Summerville that an intervention may need to be done. I have been known to sew all day and night in the past, usually only lasts about 48 hours and I fall off the chair, and just catch a few quick winks before I realize where I am and that falling off the chair should only happen after an evening in a tavern of some sort!
As you can see, I'm trying to make sure that there is somebody out there looking out for the 'new momma' and her MISS LILA.
Love to all of you.

Luann, you're going to have sew much fun! I just looked at mine for 6 months after it was set up. Then I finally decided it was time to learn how to use it because I couldn't find anyone to volunteer to quilt the guild's donation quilt. I'm still waiting for the day that I can actually play with it, though. I would love to learn to do free motion. For now I'm just using the computer part. You can take breaks while the computer is doing the work. Stay close by though in case the bobbin runs out or the thread breaks or something. Enjoy!

I'm sure you've all seen some free motion quilting being done. I found a book at a library that had a DVD in the back with Karen McTavish and was quite inspired. Linda Taylor was probably the first one I saw on TV. Leah Day and her free motion project has been amazing. But, don't tell my hubby or his wife, but I've got a crush on,,, Dusty Farrel and his unique take on the whole idea of quilting.
I am a member of Craft Daily. It's not inexpensive, but it was my Christmas gift from George. They have over 500 videos that you can view over the course of your yearly membership. And there was one that came up regarding 6 lessons from The Original Quilting Expo (?, not positive of the name). The first two were about piecing and were short. So, when this younger, tattooed dude sitting behind a longarm comes on the screen, I'm thinking,, is he promoting his wife's business, or what? I didn't mean to form an opinion of someone, but I'm being honest. He sure didn't 'look' like a quilter! Tattoo artist? Yes. Quilter? No. But then I don't look like anything but 'me'. I knew I was in for the duration of the video, once I heard him speak. I wish all children could have their teachers voice sound so reassuring and calm. He has a way of putting the viewer into the space, as though you're right there!! I he never makes it sound like,"and after you practice a lot!! You might get your pieces looking presentable, But it will take you years to get as good as me!" No sir, he exudes a quiet confidence that anyone can do this thing we call free motion quilting. I think taking a class with him would be highly encouraging, no matter one's present skill level. His part of that video covered so much that I will watch it with my sketchbook alongside!
I do plan to use the computer part for business related quilts. However, I love free motion quilting on both my regular sewing machine and on a long arm. I want to further my skill at FMQ and that will be done on my personal quilts, and perhaps some of the charity ones I'll be doing.

I have Leah Day's videos and have watched some on this site. I will keep the others in mind. For now my passion is in the piecing. When I get caught up on my piecing I have this dream show quilt that has been in the drawing stage for years. I'm hoping by the time I actually get to start it I will have extra time to practice free motion quilting. In the meantime I will just admire everyone else's work. My dream is to have a show quilt ready by 2017 so I need to get busy. I guess that will be my next year's resolution.
