Marilyn,
I appreciated your comment. I haven,t been straining my dye solutions and your comment reminded me that it would be a good idea. What do you use to strain it through? I've heard some folks use coffee filters, gauze, or sheer fabric. So, if you care to share, I would appreciate it.
Thanks for your encouragements,
Luann

He still has problems today, with leg and back pain. He's 38. Praise the Lord, he has a job that allows him to sit, walk or stand when he needs too, and a fiancé who is sympathetic to what he is going through, because she has been through it, too.
BTW, I mailed a couple of lizards to you today!
Hugs,
Dawn

Terrie your poor son,I'm also hoping he's comfortable and heals quickly. I wish you and the family strength supporting him. Perhaps the medics can reverse things.
Luann sorry I hadn't got my head screwed on and didn't think about the process. I'm new to dyeing so it was just a passing thought I'm still trying to get my head round everyone's methods. If you want to discuss a subject properly rather than get lost in a thread it's probably best to start a new one in the right section. That's no guarantee that it'll stay on topic though

Beautiful dyeing on the sheets, etc., Annilu !
Wendy...new kitchen?? Do tell ! And I thought I was doin' good with new windows and back door !!
The kitchen is why I've been lurking around the forum so much the past few weeks. Old units were falling apart after a few leaks, cat that sprayed everywhere (now departed) and general wear and tear. My oven burnt things one side and left other raw. The taps were wonky etc. so we've changed everything. Just in middle of tiling now and well be done. It's very small about the size of your cleaning cupboard. Here's my new one - I'll be back when I work out how to insert a link from pinterest.

Terrie, Hope the sons back is on the mend.
All this dye talk sounds interesting but I am going to leave that mess to all of you. I just can't manage another place to focus, or more likely dilute my creativity. I love the hand dyes but if I want them I guess I'll just have to part with $ to get them.
LuAnn, If you are afraid by starting a new thread, those of us who have participated in this conversation won't find it, you need not worry. We "Lounge Lizards" check "Recent Posts" almost everytime we login to TQS. I think that's what makes you a "Lounge Lizard".

I took a hand dyeing class.
For low-immersion dyeing, we were also taught to mix the dye powder with a little water with a mortar and pestle first, to get it well-mixed and to help prevent specks.
We were also taught to filter dye solutions with ankle-high or knee-high sheer hose. We were told to get the cheap ones at the dollar store. You put one around the top of a small glass canning jar and pour the dye solution into the jar through the hose filter on the top.
Some dyes speckle more than others. We were taught to be particularly careful with red.
I don't always go to all this trouble. Life is too short. Sometimes I just put the dye and water in a small glass jar with a tight lid on top, and shake it well. I make sure the lid is on tight! And I hold a cloth around it while I shake it, just to catch any possible leaks. That works for me.
When I have an odd cotton sheet, I tear it up and dye it too.
I bleach my white sheets. Also white socks that the guys at my house get grungy. However, I understand that bleach stays in the fabric, so sometimes after bleaching a load of whites, I will also use Bleach-Stop, which I get from Dharma.
Wendy,
My Bernina is back from the dealer and I was able to finish your mug-rug. I hope you like it!
