Margaret, pleeeease, tell us how you did it. I understand the basic principles, but did you start with dry or wet fabric? And what kind of dye did you use?
Mind you, I shouldn't even consider something like that. It's been raining here almost nonstop for weeks. And when we did have a little sunshine recently it came with very strong winds.

Hi,
I already made som JQ's and posted them on my blog at TQS and on blogger:
http://lapis-lazuli-q.blogspot.com/s...Journal_Quilts
My theme is/was "Emotions", but after 5 I got a JQ-block.
I would like to join this new group, though, and perhaps with another theme.
What are the rules/restrictions until now?
Is there already a space at TQS to show the JQ's?

Hi Lorchen
Sun printing is really easy. I started with some pieces of fabric, slightly larger than A4 size, which I placed in a litter tray (mine not the cat's!), and tried different ways of adding the colour. Some I sprayed with water first which allowed the paints to mingle more, others I used dry. I used silk paints and Lumiere metallic fabric paints mainly. For the bird piece I had some freezer paper shapes already cut out for a previous project so I just laid them on the fabric with something to weigh them down, added a few other things, including a piece of chain and put them on the front step. Fortunately the postman had already been otherwise I think he would have finally been convinced that I was mad as there were three trays in total with a variety of washers, chains, screws etc that I found in the garage. It really didn't take very long and if I had another go I would use more natural forms like leaves. Worth trying it on a window ledge if the wind is too strong. Maggi

I thought that anyone not too familiar with Journal Quilts might like to take a look at this site. There are over 1,000 which have been submitted for the Little Gems tombola which is being held to raise money for the Quilters Guild of the British Isles new Museum and Gallery in York. If you click on any of the names at the side it will take you to the JQ(s) submitted by that person. There are some well-known names who have contributed.

Hi Eugenie, just a recap: -
Journal Quilting
1 Pick a theme of your choice.
2 Make a quilt 8.5 x 11 inches - embellish and create as you like, even make it bigger if you wish, this is just a guide.
3 We will have quarterly sets, (Jan-Mar, Apr-June, July-Sept, Oct-Dec) so each set is made of 3 quilts, one for each month. This is not set in stone, it’s just a way of making a nice set before moving on to your next theme. If you wish to carry your theme over to the next quarter, feel free!! It’s your Journal.
4 Make brief notes on your process and thoughts as you work.
5 Share with other “journalists” on the show & tell site when finished. see-quilts/show-and-tell-quilts/
6 Use this “journal quilts” thread for discussion, brainstorming and comments.
Please note that as this is the begining of this new venture, we are including September in the first quarter set. You can use this as thinking time or make a fourth quilt.
Hope this helps.

I would like to join up to this, as I have generally made bed quilts, double or larger, it would be good to make something rather smaller, and able to be finished within in reasonable period of time!!! Not sure what my theme will be as rather than some who cannot think of anything, my head is whirling with ideas!!!

It is very exciting to me to see so many of you getting into the journal quilting.......because they are right from your own brain it frees you up to try new things and to think of your own ingenious ways to tell your story. Welcome aboard! Be sure to share on the Show & Tell area for journals quilts.
