Ritzy I agree with you because sometimes you just can't say what you want to say in a small space...8 x 10 was the suggested size and doing a series of 3 or 4 (or more) to expand on your thoughts and ideas may just be how it can be held to those measurements....but if it takes a larger size then go for it.

I've been following this thread and thinking it sounds like fun and so interesting. Wasn't sure if I completely understood the journal quilt idea, but suddenly the gears started turning in my brain and I think I got it! I said no new projects til I finished some of the older ones...but I did finish 3 recently. Sandi in FL

I went back this morning and reviewed what has been put forth as guidelines and thought they should be posted on this thread. Anyone who wants to add or amend these please do. I might have missed something.

        Journal Quilting

        1-Pick a theme-your choice
        2-Make a quilt 8 1/2 x 11 - embellish and create as you like
3-Stick with same theme over a 3 month period-1st one ending Dec
        next-March-then June-and Sept....the 15th of each month (3 quilts)
4-Make notes on your process and thoughts as you work along-keep it
        to one page if possible
5-Share with other “journalists” on the show & tell site when finished
6-Use the “journal quilts” thread for discussion, brainstorming and
        comments

Have fun creating.....It should be fun to see what everyone has sewn in Dec.

Great stuff Kake. But that is still one quilt a month within the three month theme period.

AND You can go to a different size if that is what's calling you AND you can carry your themes on if you wish over the next period etc.

Hi Kate, At the start of this thread, I thought someone said we could do a September quilt also. Is that still the agreement? I also understand that we will display a quilt and journal each month in the Show & Tell section. When will this be active? Jan

Yes Amoret...it is one quilt a month and although the size thing has been stated 8 1/2 X 11 it can go up a bit as you said. Themes are a personal preference. I think we are good to go on this and can begin the fun now. Can't wait to see what is ahead in this journaling project

Jan...this first quarter will include August so we have an extra bit of time to create in the beginning....and I think we are a go to begin and start the fun...now! Karen

TQSWizard Lilo has set up a Journal Quilt Show & Tell site for us so we are set to go whenever you have a quilt you would like to share. Thank you Lilo.
I am excited to see what "creative minds want to show" on this site. Mine hasn't stopped churning and I feel something beginning to come together in my brain....now to get it in fabric....I know I said I was working on one...and I was, but it went all wonky on me the other day and I felt the need to re-think it. It may get salvaged yet...but life has brought forth some other things to work on.
Until later....keep creating and show us your stuff! Karen

I searched the web for information regarding journal quilts, since I really had never heard of them and was curious about what a journal quilt was. For those of you participating in quilt journaling, you might enjoy these journal quilt projects that I found on the Marcus Fabrics website.

Thank you, Lilo, for setting up the 'Show and Tell'!

I've started the ball rolling and entered a Journal Quilt that I made a few years ago.

Edited: I decided to pop all three in.

They're great Lorchen and just the thing to start off the S&T!

Better warm up the machine now...

I played with the journal quilt that I had done and didn't really like....I figured out sometime last night as I slept what I didn't like and fixed it today. I feel like it now represents what I was thinking at the time I created it....so it is now in the Show & Tell area and I am happy that I could rescue it....thank goodness for the brain still being able to percolate while I sleep.

The quilts so far in the Journal show and tell are great. Nice work Karen and Lorchen.

I've just uploaded a JQ. My 'theme' is to try out different techniques and this was done when we were getting some glorious weather so only took a short time to print.
