    Bernina Designer Plus V6 upgrade

Does anyone have info on the purchase of an upgrade from DP5 to DP6? Does such an upgrade exist? If so, what is the cost and how does one go about getting it? I would balk at buying an entirely new software package that would probably cost $2000 but would probably buy an upgrade. Not finding much info on the BerninaUSA site, but maybe looking in the wrong place.

The cost for the upgrade is $499. V6 is $2099. This is all MSRP of course...! Waiting to purchase my upgrade.

OK, I'll pay that price but how does one go about getting it? I hope it can be done online since I live in Switzerland. The info that there is a V6 doesn't even appear on the Bernina.ch site.

          Libbi,
I've sent an email to my local dealer, asking if they can ship overseas. If I get a positive response, I'll let you know.

Talked to my Bernina dealer here in Switzerland. He estimates that it won't be available here until next year. The software is not written in Switzerland. I may just have to wait in order to get the update and the training. I will probably get some one-to-one training if I wait since he likes to practice his English with me.

Libbi, could one of us buy it and send it to you? I would be willing to do that. Right now my friend and I are going to the mastery classes - every Monday for 8 weeks. What this software is capable of doing is absolutely amazing!

Thank you for the offer. Since I would be going for the upgrade from D+V5 to 6, I would need to prove that I do indeed own it. I am sure that I registered it. Then there's that dongle thingy that makes the program work. Keep me informed how the upgrade is managed. If it can be done without lots of trouble, I may go for your offer.
The upgrade does look amazing and does solve some of the issues that irritated me with V5.

I have been watching the Bernina Webinars re Version 6. They are really informative & worth watching. Additionally, our dealer has had monthly updates highlighting what new features we can expect. I will be updating to V6 as soon as I can as I think the new features are worth the price. I agree with you they have fixed many of the frustrating features.
Libbi the webinars are always posted on the Bernina site for a week after they are aired.
The price quoted you is $USD. You can expect to pay more as I know in Canada we are going to be charged more depending on the price of our dollar.

Just read this Libbi. I don't have a lot of inkling about what the v6 is but I can't believe you live in Switzerland and are having trouble with Bernina parts/upgrades??!!?? Am I really reading that right or have I lost the plot?

Yes, you are reading my posts correctly. The Bernina market is bigger in the USA and I believe the software is written in Australia in English. The 830 & 820 were launched in the USA before Switzerland & the EU. In fact I knew about the 830 from TQS before the local Bernina dealer. I can only imagine that it's market size that dictates the release of products.

Libbi, I agree. The US has such a huge market that they dictate what & when new products are launched. I too find out from TQS & the Bernina of America website what is happening although my dealer is great.
Bernina USA offers a financing arrangement whereas Canada will not: we tend as a country to want to pay for a product or not get it at all. I don't know how this works in Switzerland or elsewhere.

Well I guess I can understand the marketing aspect but it's a topsy turvy world sometimes!!

Think of the Swiss market for Bernina as about the same size as the market of one US state. Still, you'd think a certain amount of pride would come into this.

I bet if we take any modern sewing machine apart we'll find parts from more than a dozen different countries.

When the automatic controls of the heating system in my local school broke down, the part to repair it had to come from Denmark, even though the company was English. It took the Danes three weeks, so I bet they got it from somewhere else around the world.
