Well, I can't come to Houston this year, But "Three" of my AAQI quilts will be there. Whoo Hoo, I have always made jokes about doing a quilt good enough to go to Houston. I even browbeat a Bernina dealer until my new Bernina's tension was fixed to my satisfaction which was to quilt it well enough to send to Houston. So now Ammi has chosen three of my little charity quilts to go to the AAQI exhibit in Houston. I am pumped... They are #10133- The Leaves are Falling From My Memory. This a quilt that I dedicated to my DH who was diagnosed with early Alzheimer's about 20 months ago. Things are basically ok for now but every day is a challenge. The second one is #10134 - Occasional Sparks in My Fading Chain of Memories which is dedicated to my dear Mother who in her later years basically lost her memory but had these occasional sparks of clarity which always surprised us. The third one @10135 - Love Lived is dedicated to friends of ours in Texas. Doris was fading into Alzheimer's when I met her but I watched her fade away and watched her dear husband care for her in the most loving way. AAQI used to be a favorite Charity for me but since my Husband's diagnosis it has become a mission to me.

If any of you see my little quilts in Houston - buy them! or if you want to buy someone else's do that but take a picture for me if you see one of mine.

Support this effort. It is essential that we find a treatment that is effective if not a cure.

Will miss you all at Houston, Maybe 2013 will be my year!!!!! Hugs to all, Ann

i am very much looking forward to seeing you too! is Rebecca coming too?.

lol, we are 2 1/2 hrs from each other, and have to go to Houston to see each other?! we seriously need to address this
Rebecca is a maybe. If she can, she'll come up for a couple of days. (I'm betting she comes, but won't promise until she gets her plane ticket.)

We definitely need to meet closer sometime! But sometimes life makes 2 1/2 hours just as difficult as a million miles....

Sherry -- I can't wait to meet you too, oh wait, I have met you. LOL and the AWESOME quilt. I know I told you congrats on Facebook, but it is awesome to actually know a humble and extremely talented quilter with a stunning quilt that will, as Alex says, "knocks your socks off."

Sherry - maybe someone's already asked, but I'm sure the question will come up. How long did it take you to do this work of art? Just the crystals alone must have been hours. A labour of love. You deserve a prize - and I hope it's a really BIG one!

the whole quilt, from drafting it on graph paper to putting on the crystals, took about 1000 hrs, roughly 10 months. I don't keep track, but breaking it down, i would have to say about 1 to 1 1/2 months for drafting, figuring measurements and making paper piecing patterns. probly a month just figuring out where the colors and fabric. roughly 3 months piecing, and 3 months quilting, and oh those lovely crystals, eeeek.....that was 2 weeks of grueling work--and i'm talking kids go to school, lay the quilt on the floor and proceed to hot fix crystals alll day. it got so monotonous, i ended up doing like 12 legs lifts for each crystal, lol--the tick of the clock kept making me sleepy otherwise

Sherry, I am so thrilled to bits for you. I wish I could be there in person - but I guess you will have to settle for my flatter version. Ladies, don't forget to charge the cameras, and don't forget the chargers for the camera, and don't forget to take a photograph for the rest of us. Whoo Hoo!!
