I think that it's going to be impossible to set up a single meeting because everyone's arrival/departure and class schedules will be so different, but I will definitely see if TQS will let us have some kind of message board (or notebook?) at the booth where we can check for meetings other than the daily 1:00 meet and greet. If anyone has other suggestions or think that there may be a better time/place to meet, please let us know!!!! I haven't been to the IQF in years, and understand that the venue is even larger now, so I'm not sure how the layout of the convention center is. It was HUGE 12 years ago....I can't imagine more space to cover!

With that said, I think that the Ricky Tims' concert is a great place for EVERYONE to TRY to get together. If you've never been to one, you are definitely in for a treat!!! Those who are also signed up for the dinner/tribute for Alex can go together to the next venue and visit during dinner.

I will be at Quilt Market but not Quilt Festival. Any Market people out there? If you are come by my booth and say "Hi!". I will be all alone so bring candy or a baked potato about lunch time...

I'm hoping Houston will be ok by Market.

The Houston Show is still on! Here are selections from an e-mail from Karey: We are receiving many phone calls and emails asking if the Houston shows (Market and Festival) will indeed go on. YES. The shows WILL go on. You've now gotten it straight from the horse's mouth--me. The George Brown Convention Center came through like a champ. Most of the downtown hotels have some repairs to make (blown out skylights and windows, etc.) but they'll be ready for the shows. The Quilts, Inc. building is closed (no power) but we are working with management to get it open long enough for us to evacuate the quilts out of town so they will be safe in a climate controlled atmosphere and so that IQA judging can take place. That judging has been delayed one week. My staff is all safe, although several have had damage to their houses
but no injuries or loss of life, thank God.

I will be going to the Quilt Festival but not sure of the day. I visit my folks each year during this time and my mom & I take a day or two to attend the show. I like to look through the quilts and she likes to tear a path through the vendors. If you see a little 5 ft tall woman with black hair coming through the aisles, stand aside because she means business!!

I've been wondering about my quilt, and hoping that it's okay. Sounds like they're working on getting it moved to a place with A/C. Hope it hasn't been too damp or gotten mildewed. Bleah.

I have a question - what kind of weather can we expect in Houston the end of October? temperature? rain? I guess, since I'll be coming from the north, I'm wondering if I need Summer clothes or Fall clothes? I tend to get too hot, so want to be sure to dress comfortably. Thanks sooooo much.

Sherry, I was wondering about that, too. The catalog says "Houston weather in late October/early November can be warm, brisk, wet, or clear. Bring an umbrella, coat and plenty of comfortable clothing."
Well.....I guess that clears up THAT!! LOL!!!!

I'm thinking layers so we can wrap up or strip down as we need to, and COMFORTABLE SHOES! Fashion stops at the knees at a quilt show!!

That's great, Margo - now I know to just pack my whole wardrobe
:? LOL I do think the layers idea is good. See you there :-)

Yes, I would plan on layers. We have gone since my DD was in middle school and she is now in grad school. Sometimes we need a coat and sometimes we need shorts. One thing that is really important to know is that they have a hard time regulating the temperature in the classrooms. There are several classrooms on each system and sometimes they get hot and sometimes they are very cold. I am usually hot so I wear short sleeves and bring a sweater.

We have a saying in Texas. If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it will change! I'd advise layers. The last couple of years, it's been chilly out of doors, but it can really warm up on the convention floor, so a jacket is a definite! Can't wait to see all of you!
                      Happy Quilting,

By the way, I did hear the other day that the Quilt Festival is still on target. I think I read here that someone was wondering if it would be cancelled. Since it's the largest Convention in the city every year, I'm sure they would go to extraordinary means to keep it coming here!

Can't wait to meet some/all of you.

Are any of you signed up for the Super Seminar? I was thinking of seeing if my SIL can survive without me if I sign up for it.

I went to the one in Knoxville last September and can tell you that you would definitely get a lot out of it!!! You won't believe how much stuff they cover and the big screen format is awesome! Not only that, you will get to see Ricky's and Alex's and Libby's quilts up close and personal!!! MONEY AND TIME WELL SPENT!!!
Your SIL is a big girl....she can probably deal with it! Better yet, get her to go with you!!!!!!!!!

Do take the seminar, it's wonderful. And if you do, sign up to be one of the volunteers. You will get to help hang and take down the quilts. I had a great time doing it, and got to meet some of the other TQS members.
