Ugh I'm sitting in the garden and just been presented with a dead frog. Dinner anyone?

Rosemary--yes, that is the kind of ribbing I know in knitting. I imagine that your mums description is as good as any I can come up with and will probably do the fishermen's stitch for the project unless someone else comes up with other answers for me. In the mean time, I have started a much easier project in knitting to console myself and do that until finished. Why do I need to be consoled? I worked on the Celtic Cable sweater designed and taught by Carol Feller on Craftsy. I worked a very long time on it and learned a lot. I finished it, blocked it and it is a beautiful sweater. There are mistakes in it but I am a very new knitter and this was a very difficult pattern so I am OK with the results. What I am not OK with is it doesn't fit me. I did the swatches to check my gauge--they were exactly what they should be. The only thing that saved me from ripping it into little pieces was the thought it might fit my daughter. So, said daughter is the owner of a beautiful cable sweater--knitted by her mommy.

I just spent a beautiful day in Chicago with a former foreign exchange student and her family. How wonderful to see her after about 18 years and to meet her husband and child. And, the weather in Chicago cooperated by giving us a glorious fall day of sunshine and cool breezes off the lake. God is good.

Wow, I had a quilting weekend! The first in a long time. Norma, your mug rug is posting today. Rita, I will have your mug rug finished and in mail by end of week. I was seriously delayed by unexpected trips to Montana, Wyoming and Colorado over the last month. I am taking a class from Susan Else at Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore (Quilting in the Garden) on Thursday and Friday. It's so great to be in sewing mode again!

Ritzy I think we need to see a photo of the Aran sweater you made, please?

Charae, I will wait patiently, with great anticipation, for the arrival of the mug rug. Aren't you a lucky duck to be going to a quilting class in Alden Lane Nursery. Some of us can only imagine such a thing. Have a great time.

Ritzy - I feel your pain over your beautiful jumper! At least it fits someone in the family.

Many years ago my mother knitted my father a white arran (cable knit) jumper for my father, and the first day he wore it he went and worked on the car and got oil on it  Luckily it did come out and I now have it somewhere. Along the way in the wash it got so heavily fulled/felted that it is brilliant in the worst of weathers, nothing comes through it wind/rain/sleet, the lot 8)

              PS. sweater = jumper

Charae, I hope you'll kneel down and kiss the ground when you get to Alden Lane Nursery, seeing that you are on ground where so many famous quilters have walked. Have fun!

I never get to Houston or Paducah, but Livermore is just up the road apiece and I do get to take advantage of Quilting in the Garden. I have taken several really good classes there, including a hand quilting class from Alex a couple of years ago. Lorchen, I never really thought about kneeling down and kissing the ground at Alden Lane although I certainly should because there's always lots of quilting nobility in attendance at this event. I guess I'm just too busy looking up at all of the spectacular quilts hanging from the oak trees. It is fabulous! Next year, come on over. DH and I have a spare guest room and I know the way to Livermore, too!

Charae, thank you so much for the invitation. We could then kneel and kiss the ground together, starting a new tradition.

But I will have to retire first before planning any exciting travelling. And right now I'm not so sure about when to take that step. When I'm working with the kids, I want to go on, but when I have to deal with some colleagues who get away with blue murder because they kiss a part of my line manager's body she normally sits on, I want to retire asap. Big decision. The earliest time to escape will come at the end of July next year. Big sigh..... Decisions, decisions......

Rita--I was so upset that the sweater didn't fit that I gave it to my daughter without taking a picture. So, I will have to wait until I am down her way and try to remember to take the camera.
Rosemary--I knew that jumper was a sweater. Here a jumper is a loose fitting dress that is worn over a shirt. OR--jumper cables which are used to hook on battery up to another battery to make a car run.

Oh Lizards, sometimes there is so much chat that we get blown off into the universe when we try to respond I forgot what I said the first time around, so will try to remember

Charae, I hope you will post pictures of your project with Susan. Will the class be on fabric sculpture? I'm praying for you that the weather will be somewhat less that boiling. Maybe those oaks give plenty of respites from the sun.

Wendy, I'm kind of laughing about your frog, having been talked into watching a few episodes of Duck Dynasty where the guys go bullfrog hunting and the woman does a cooking show on how to cook them. Never ate one myself, but I hear they taste like ChickeN!

Vicki, beautiful mug rug! I know I've missed commenting on many, having only had time to lurk, but wow, they are all beautiful. I, myself, am more that half way through the next batch, remembering that half is the backing

Lovely Lorchen, really? Scotch in the Supermarket? That's funny!

                              Cheers to all!

Yes, Sue, it's fabric sculpture. Entitled 3D Adventures: Beasts in the Jungle. I am NOT artistic and usually interpret instructions a little different than the rest of the world so this is really a stretch for me -- hopefully it won't be frustrating. My favorite quilts have always had a little 3D element, though, so I am really excited to learn anything I can from Susan. Livermore is usually boiling this time of year, but being of a certain age I know to carry a little electric fan and an extension cord. I have no shame!
