Maureen and I were emailing about the shipping overseas. She reminded me that both hers and Rosemary's Hsts took 4 weeks or more to get from here to the USA. I believe we had better luck with mailing the reels from the USA to me using my APO address. (Well one did take 4 weeks as it came by way of SriLanka.) The key mailings that are time sensitive are when Maureen mails to the USA and then the following Christmas when the finished quilt gets mailed back to the UK. We'll try this with Maureen's initially as she will mail it to me and I will mail it to USA. It is best to use priority mail for quickest service.
Other than those two time sensitive mailings, others may chose to mail to me or directly to Maureen. If it comes through me, you must double wrap the quilt. So I won't see it when I take it out of what you mail it in and put it into the mail to Maureen.
Lorna
As Lorna says, the quilts will have to be put in a sealed dark bag before it is put into the box to post to her so that she doesn’t see it as it would spoil it for her because she is the last one. You would have to send it to Lorna and then pay her for the container and postage from her to me, so in the end, it might work out cheaper to send directly to me. As long as the weight of the quilt is less than 2 Kg (approx 4.4 lbs) then postage here is not unreasonable. Over 2 Kg it gets quite expensive. We will try and work this out and let you know as soon as we can.

Marilyn, We definitely need to plan to meet sometime, but I don't think winter is the time to do it. There used to be the most wonderful quilt shop in Elko but Joann's came to town and the long time owner decided to close shop. I think she was ready to retire and did not even want to think about the competition. I am sure your dust bunnies (even if they look more like jack rabbits) would not scare me. I have some of the jack rabbit variety of my own. I love the wide open spaces you have out there, but I also love my old worn down mountains back here. I get a little testy when my western friends think our mountains are nothing but a joke. My geologist daughter tells me that in times gone by they were higher than the Himalayas. So they were higher and are much older than anything you have out west. People just ought to have a little respect for their elders. That goes for mountains and people. I am sure our mountains have amazing stories to tell hidden under their wooded slopes. I for one never tire of sitting and listening to what they have to say. I digress. Sorry.

But an interesting digression Lois, thank you. We don't have high mountains in Ireland either but they can be very spectacular. And if you ever go to the Highlands in Scotland - stunning!
Maureen, I am sure Rosemary will send hers direct to me, I will send it direct to you when I finish mine, and I will send my quilt direct to Wendy. It's usually about 5 days from the UK to here. But I don't know how long it takes to get from here to the UK or Scotland.

The UK and you in Ireland are no problem. I suppose it would take the same length of time from you to the UK as it is from the UK to you. The post here is pretty good.

Maureen - How exciting that you are finishing it up and getting it posted!! It will feel so good to have that weight off your shoulders, and I'm sure you look forward to the fun of seeing each new quilt trickle in through the challenge.
And thank you, Lorna, for volunteering to be our shipping point. I'm happy to ship things however you guys find is best. I never ship anything overseas, so I'll use whatever method you guys think is safest.
This is all so exciting!

Just for future reference. The trip from Elko, NV to Council, ID is 360 miles and would take 6 1/2 hrs. The route does go right through Boise so I was wrong about no big towns along the way. That trip is out this time. We have made day trips to Twin Falls, ID to go shopping. I think that took 3 hrs oneway.
