yup agree with that - if i'll put vinegar it has to give me some flavor other than just acidity...

love that shibori dye maureen - beautiful work - i've been reading an article on shibori dying in one of the german magazines - but they either tied or clipped the fabric - i hadn't realized that it was also possible to "sew" the resist - this gives so many more options

gotta gotta gotta find more hours in the day so i can get around to trying these!

i look forward to seeing your exhibition fotos - wow i'm already thinking - yeahhhhh i'm actually saying.

also looking forward to those houston pics - you'll have to enjoy it for us as well - and bring back those fotos so that we can share after the event

oh - forgot to answer the how do we dye the silks: exactly the same as everything else - i just added whatever fabrics i could get a hold of - as well as some diaper liners and cheesecloth and whatever else is lying around - they are great to do embellishments - flowers and whatnot - if the fiber holds together you can put it in - and as the procion dyes are done using cold water - just about anything goes

Wow Maureen I am almost speechless, that is so beautiful.
I spent today googling soda ash and found out its washing soda so that's easy to find. Now couldn't find white vinegar is that in the grocery or washing powder sections, I found all sorts of vinegars in Morrisons but the clear one was malt which didn't seem right.

Anne *waves* nice to see you around again and thanks for the links.
Silly question Wendy, but why are you using washing soda and vinegar? In Morrisons it is probably on the shelf with the salt or sauces.

I've been reading that you wash with soda ash before and after and use the vinegar to bring out the colour after rinsing. It was on here or Freda Anderson's blog here click on the dyeing workshop link or somewhere on the 101 places I've looked at in the past couple of weeks.

Thank you for the email link I shan't lose that one .

All you need now is your glasses or a magnifier to read the small print on the packet and you will be fine - measure out the stuff before work, and chuck it in and leave it till you get home - there is lots of waiting time between actions with dyeing and then a little whirl of activity.

............and go to work with purple fingers.

I gave up trying to read the instructions and googled it. I've got some written out ready to start.

Well Maureen you won't be offending anyone by the way you interpret their quilt.

By the way that was a joke - I really won't mind if someone interprets my cat as a snowball.

I've taken the plunge and made a start.

Yeh it was so much fun, can't wait for OH to finish in the kitchen and I can make stronger dyes and do some missing colours

I think I like the last fabric where I chucked all the colours in best.

Wendy your dyed fabrics are lovely. Have you got a project in mind? You will become like everyone else who loves dyeing - an addict that really enjoyed the buzz from actually dyeing the fabric and seeing the end results.

Thanks, I intend to make a little quilt inspired by the fusing lessons by Laura Wasilowski and Frieda Anderson so am trying to get bright colours and then I can have fun with embellishing. I machine a lot so need a bit of hand stuff for sitting with OH so he doesn't feel neglected, which he is

I like those two and am enjoying the lessons, as I like fusing as well. I have been thinking of putting some flowers into one of my indigo projects.

I know what DH means (dear husband) but what does OH mean? :? :?
