Hey all you SoTTTs!! :wink:

If it helps you to have a visual of what you need to send Debbie, this post's for you!
Depending on how many HSTs you send, your package may be smaller and postage may be less.
(This bubble wrap mailer, purchased at my local PO, is holding 616 HSTs.)

Inside the mailer of your choice you need to send to Debbie:

**A self addressed, STAMPED return mailer, at least as large and the one you ship to Deb in. Put your name and address as the return address so that if there is insufficient postage, it will come back to you. The PO box that Debbie is using will be closed so you don't want it going back there!
I'd like to suggest that rather than dropping your package into a mailbox, you take it to your local post office to post & mail. At that time you can talk with the postal clerk about what postage is needed for your return envelope.
PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR POST OFFICE FOR SUFFICIENT POSTAGE!

You will need to use stamps on this mailer. The metered postage is dated, so it can't be used for return mailing.
Include your TQS screen name and the total number of HSTs you are exchanging on the OUTSIDE of the return mailer.

**A plastic bag containing all your HSTs, clearly labeled with your TQS screen name and the total number of HSTs you are exchanging.
Please keep your total an increment of 28! Squeeze the air out of the plastic bag, but DO NOT ZIP IT CLOSED!
It will save time for the sorters if they don't have to unzip 615 bags!! :shock:
edited for Clara: All I want to add is if the international quilters want to zip their ziplox I'm fine with that. Especially since they have so far to go and you just never know how many hands touch their envelopes. Clara

On the outside of your mailer to Debbie be sure to put your TQS Screen Name and total number of HSTs you are exchanging.

I ordered the priority mail envelopes form the post office but they are really thin. Has anyone used these? I'm concened they may not be strong enough to safely mail the squares so will prob go get a bubble wrap one. Thanks for the visuals Margo.

Hi all, I am sending 672 hst's, all packed and ready to post today. So much for housework, that can wait. I have the hall booked and extra ladies to come and prepare the hst's - paper removal and pressing and doing the food to sustain us all while the patchworkers sew. I have extra papers ordered for the local ladies to make lots of hst's and hopefully lots of lovely quilts to send away. Thank you all, Louise

If they say Tyvek anywhere on them, they are SUPER strong! I'm assuming that is what you ordered since most post offices carry the cardboard kind. Tyvek is almost indestructible! You can trust it!

Getting there sooner rather than later with my HST’s. Two thirds done now. Thanks for your visual Margo, looks like you have done this before! (note hint of sarcasm?) You make it look so easy! I’ll bet your sewing room is just as organized! You are such an inspiration! Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions. Hope to be sending mine off soon. Thanks again for all the advice on threads, ironing, mailing, etc.

I have received many priority mailing envelopes, some of them are the stronger Tyveck, and some are a little lighter; however, they have all arrived in very good condition. Putting the HST's in a one-gallon Ziplock bag inside will help too, just in case.

Go to page one of this forum for the guidlines, deadlines, etc. We don't have to have them in until April 1st
Here is an excerpt from page one.
"Since we have participating members from all over the world, we need to allow enough time for postal services. Our deadline for sending your HST’s will be April 1st. However, if we find that postal services are slower than expected, we will be flexible when it comes to distributing the HST’s."

Sisters and Brothers, We all make mistakes sometimes. I will be happy with a couple of ironed open HST's. I'm sure we can make it work. I also made a mistake. Sameone twice!! My Bernina goes back to a default stitch length every time I turn it off, and a couple of times I forgot to shorten my stitch length. I was afraid of ripping the paper if I tried to remove stitches and restitch. They are not cut apart yet. What do you think, should I remove my longer stitches or leave them?? Not a whole paper was involved either time. I have 14 papers done and 11 to go. I am heading to Omaha tomorrow. I have a stiff neck from sewing. I need a break. Everyone stay happy and healthy.

Why don't you just sew another line of (smaller) stitches over the existing lines? I wouldn't think it would cause any problems.

I'm not very familiar with paper piecing but could you just run the needle without any thread in it, just to score the paper better? (Honestly, would that work? I liked using the paper and can see making that exact mistake.) Although I did have an issue with my bobbin thread at one point and had to remove several lines of stitching, the paper held up, I just had to be careful.

This really isn't 'paper piecing', it is more 'paper foundation sewing' but the paper is on top so we can see the lines to sew on for accuracy.

It's just as well I have completed my HST, as I landed a full time job 2 weeks ago. I've made 1320 HST, but I will not be sending them all to SoTT's. I had thought to send about 840, but will cut that back to 700. So what to do about all that opening and pressing and paper ripping?? I rang a couple of friends who are not part of SoTT or Batiks R Us, and they think I'm mad , but they are willing to help. So we are having a "Pressing Party" some time in late May or early June. They will come prepared with Irons, and I supply lunch, soup and bread rolls. Did I mention that they are quilters? Can you see us standing around going Oooooohhhhh and Aaaahhhhhhhh! I think I'm looking forward to the reveal..... I might have to get busy and make more HST, just to keep them busy on the day. Even 1320 HST takes up very little room on the table! Working on patterns now and I'm thinking about 2 Quilts, maybe if I get more done I could make a queen size, that would be interesting! Well I think I will print a few more sheets and just do them.... keep me going.

I made 1400 HST's in the last two weeks, 700 for this swap and 700 for a scrappy quilt I am making. When I started joining all those HST's I discovered I made 100 too many. The joke is on me!

You still have plenty of time since the deadline isn't until April 1st. Most packages from the US are getting her very quickly, so please take your time and enjoy the process. It gets somewhat addictive and you don't want to stop!

Oops... I have sent mine already and zipped all those bags. Sorry I just didn't think about the time it would take to un-zip them.

Sorry to hear about your car being puny! Just get your package in the mail when you can and let me know when you've sent it. That way we'll know to wait for it even if it is after April 1.

So far, I've received several notifications of packages mailed from Australia, but haven't received them yet.
