I have personally found it to be helpful in "setting" color in pre-washing fabrics, but it does not always stop the bleeding in all cases and you must rinse thoroughly to get out the vinegar odor. I've never tried RETAYNE or SYNTHROPOL, but will order some and try it.

Just remembered something: I bought a hand-dyed batik pareo in Grenada & the lady in the shop told me to walk into the ocean while wearing it, as the sea water would "set" the dye. Now, I guess we can't all just walk down to a beach & rinse our fabrics and/or quilts. Maybe some components of sea water (fish pee??? eeekkk!!!) other than salt work some magic. But I think I'll mix up some salt water, put in some test fabric & see what happens.
Wonder what chemistry is at play here?

Using salt to set colors is ringing a bell. Now sure why. One thing I am sure of...I'll never go into the ocean again w/o thinking "fish pee'! :shock:

Of course I picked April 15th to mail my strips at the Post Office. I had to laugh at myself. I just want to thank Barb for her time and effort putting this together. I hope her reward is just getting to see all of the beautiful fabrics. Thanks so very much! May I add, after I posted this I wanted to give a huge thank you to all that are involved working on this.

Do we have a new total of strips in the exchange thus far? I'm having a hard time imagining our wonderful sorters divvying out over 400 yards of fabric in 1 1/2 x 22 inch pieces! What a monumental task! Thanks to you ladies for your hard work!

Just finished opening and sorting...

I have 147 packages and 23,506 strips - still getting batiks I have not seen before - amazing :!: :!: :!:

Today is April 17th - your envelopes are due to me by April 30th. I would like to sort soon after that date, so if you are participating, please get to the post office this week

I am sorry, but I will not be able to send any strips. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer on March 31st. I had exploratory surgery on April 2nd which will result in a 10.5 in. scar! They were able to remove most of the cancer and I will begin chemo next week. I am not bouncing back as quick as I had hoped. At 72 it takes a bit longer than I would like! I had just started cutting strips after sending in my HST when this all started. I have enjoyed reading all the posts and feel bad I have to drop out. We are hopeful for a great recovery. Please keep me in your prayers.

Miss Deanna, you can count on my prayers. I was going to email you privately but I'll say it here because knowing the TQS members, others are going to have the same thought. But I would love to send you some strips so you don't miss out. I didn't have enough variety so I bought more fabric and can easily and happily cut more strips. If anyone else wants to do this, I could have you mail them to me to pass on to Deanna if that's alright with Barb and everyone.
