Margo--I like your little block. I did something similar in years gone by but as my HST designs recently have been Churn Dash or Wandering (Friendship) Star I couldn't seem to see beyond single blocks. A similar idea, perhaps with an added applique border could be my answer to a bunch of HST that are in abeyance. It would mean a bunch of frogging (reverse sewing) but I guess I can handle that. There are some wonderful ideas showing up so I could be changing my mind before I get to the project.

The HSTs we are exchanging finish 2" x 2", so it takes 10 rows and 10 columns to make a 20" x 20" finished block.

You could always make some more to add borders etc. now you know how quick & easy it is to make a few more in different combinations.

          Bev,

Why don't you get a local group together, like your Guild, Bee or your quilting friends, to do an exchange so you'll get more HSTs.

If I read correctly - those were 1" blocks made from 1 1/2" HSTs --- the 2" ones will be a little larger!

No, Lena. I used the 2" finished HSTs like we are exchanging through TQS.

              There are 10 rows X 2" = 20"
              There are 10 columns X 2" = 20"

100 two inch FINISHED HST yields one pieced block that measures 20" X 20" - finished size.

Thanks Margo! Apparently I was up way past my bedtime and my math brain had already gone to bed ops:

I have a Mac and use the bootcamp included to partition the hard drive. For me it works just fine but other complain about having to restart the computer to switch sides. There are other programs like parallel that allow you to run both at the same time. Yahoo has a group for Mac users with tons of information.

I have so many UFOs that I want to do something really simple. One of the ladies at my quilting group showed us one she had done with random HSTs like we're getting in this exchange. She simply put them in rows. I'll add some sashing to define blocks of HSTs and make the quilt come out to the right size. It really looked nice and all the different HSTs made it quite interesting. I plan to use it as a regular quilt on our bed or in the camper. We need all the quilts we can get when it's -20 as we're out hunting in the mountains!

Here is a block design that would work if you need to add to your HSTs to create a larger quilt!

What do you think about this pattern seen at Fons & Porter Love of Quilting ? Lot of space for freemotion work, and a bit unusual - that's the way I like traditionals.

Thank you for posting your ideas, they have really got me excited about the possibilities. I'm considering using my HSTs to make an autograph (or signature) quilt for my sister's wedding. At her reception we had guests sign 3" muslin squares and I haven't figured out exactly how I would like to incorporate these into a quilt. If I use the HSTs then maybe I could put a 1/2" border around each autograph square so that they measure 4" finished. Then maybe I can use the triangles to create a Bear Paw, a Cut Glass Dish, an Indian Plume, a Pieced Star, or even an Ocean Waves pattern. I'm still playing around with ideas. I wish I knew how to post pictures. Does anyone have any ideas on creating a signature quilt with these HSTs?

Kim, you will find instructions for posting photos in the TQS forum here: http://forum/forum-questions-and-sug...-the-tqs-forum

Also...Is your sister a quilter? A member of TQS?? If so, I'm sure that she would really appreciate getting HSTs from around the world.

If she's not a member of TQS, you might want to make her quilt with other fabric and save these little treasures for a quilt for yourself!
