I have been needing to clean out and expand my thread storage area...this challenge prompted me to get to it so last night I did....here is the mess that used to live in this cart full of drawers

And this is the result of cleaning and expanding my thread storage

It should be much easier to find what I need now that it is orderly, clean and it helps to P-Touch label things too!

Margo inspired me with the sewing room ideas but it was the snowstorm that gave me the time to get going. After shoveling snow several times yesterday, I "rested" by tackling my sewing space to the right of my machine with a turntable deal usually used for pencils and office supply stuff. Then I looked in one of my drawers of scrap fabric....and closed it again.
Instead, I took on my scrap bags of leftover batting. I butted the edges together and used a running zig-zag (6mm wide and 3mm stitch length). I kind of squished the edges together and stitched together larger pieces about the size of one of my cutting mats (23" x 17"). I will use these pieces to for bags or totes and to have practice pieces to test quilt patterns or correct tension for various thread combinations. Just having these odds and ends put to good use was a lift for my spirits. I kept batting types the same. Wool batts are in one pile and Hobbes 80/20 cotton poly in another.

I will work on the fabric drawer when I finish the Friendship Triangle Exchange.

Lorchen, Is that an owl you are holding in the picture? Wow, if so, that's pretty cool. By the way I have a very bad drawer. But my desk is worse, so that has to wait. Everything has to wait. Except working out. I have to go to FLA on vacation so I am not skipping that. I have 3 weeks and am having trouble cutting down on carbs. Actually that's 2 weeks. Time for the South Beach diet. Jan

If eating the Peeps helps with the tidying up I'm all for it

Should we ask what they were doing there in the first place?

I'm so lovin' the before and after photos! Thanks Jan! Peeps, shmeeps...I want to know if those rattan tubes are those old finger pulling things we used to play with a million years ago! LOL!! And is that a 1/8" hole punch for marking corners on plastic piecing templates? An ear syringe? Matches?

You've got some 'splain' to do!!

I really do want to know what the ear syringe is for! My drawer has wintergreen lifesavers (addicted) instead of peeps. Sandi

Yes, Margo, those tubes are the old-style finger-grabbers...I think we used to call them "Chinese Handcuffs!" (back in the old, non-PC days) I don't remember where I got them, but I'm sure they will come in handy.
I use the syringe bulb to blow dust out of things. It also comes in handy as a little suction device from time to time (though I can't think of a for-instance), so now I know where to find it...
Yup, 1/8" punch for templates (aren't you clever!).
The matchbox is empty at the moment, but I had the feeling it would be handy for *something*........ (Thoreau said, "It is best to avoid the beginnings of evil.")
As for the Peeps, what the heck do you all THINK they were doing in the drawer? They were there because I ran out of candy canes! Duh!

Maybe we should start a new, "What do you keep in your drawer?" thread! It's always fascinating to get a "peep" (HAHA!) into other folks' stuff.

Ear syringe? That's also kinda PC. Looks like what I called a "snot sucker " for my babies' stuffed up noses. Sorry if this is too gross.
