    Rosemary, my local optician greeted me with 'school, driving, and quilt-making, right!' last time I went to have my eyes checked. He is more expensive than the large chains in Nottingham, but you get personalized service.

    As somebody who does a lot of hand embroidery, most of my friends who do small work use a 'dazer' because it magnifies and illuminates the area you work with. I don't. But if I work on dark fabric I will only do it in daylight, sitting close to a window, with the light on the work. I guess we all have to experiment a little to find a way that's best for our eyes and the task we are doing.
