I sent for the embellishment kit yesterday. Do you think I can catch up? Hope so!

      Hi Lois -

I just started mine last weekend and it took a concerted effort, but I'm caught up. I'm sure you can catch up, too! My embellishment kit came almost immediately.

Lois, the green silk (center block with berries) and teal linen (top/sky block) come in the kit, so you might want to keep that in mind when selecting your fabrics.

Thanks I went back to look at the kit again and printed out some of the color photos hoping that would help with the color selection. Hope I can find the rest of the stuff from my stash. Can't wait to play.

It's a great gentle project. I'm just doing the rickrack and ribbon bit and pottering through it, so don't rush to catch up. None of the weeks seem to have hours of work.

You might want to wait until you get your kit to pick out your other colors. The colors vary in the kits. My piece of Radiance was a fairly deep blue.

Thanks, everybody! I have lots to keep me busy until that package arrives.

OK...here are some things I tried with lesson 3. I really don't like the way my grasses turned out. Even though my tension was right on the practice piece, it didn't do the same on the real thing, and I unsewed and re-stitched it twice, then just left it. Instead of three lines of the stitches I wasn't pleased with for sewing down the ribbon, I found a cute triangle design on my Bernina that fit just perfectly in the default settings and that went really well.

The stems on the bud block needed to be a light value on the silk, but when it crossed into the fabric below it needed to be a dark value, so to make that work, I took two shades of green yarn and twisted them as I couched them down with MonoPoly thread and I really like the way that worked.

Everything else was pretty routine except that I got carried away with the quilting on the silk! Did I tell you that I luv the sheen of this stuff!!

Margo the twisted stem is really a lovely effect. And the quilting on the silk is fab.

                            Hi Margo -

I love what you did with your stems! Like you, I used a different fancy stitch on my sewing machine for the heart stem. Yours looks better, but I'm still pleased with mine. I'll post pictures once I finish the last of the quilting.

I love the quilting that you did on the silk. I have some Radiance that I picked up a while ago from a sale at my LQS that I've been saving for a wholecloth. I can't wait to do that because the quilting on this little bit was so luscious!

We're in the same boat, Lois. I just returned from an unschedule trip to find my embellishment kit in the mail--the turn around was really quick. I hope to start this weekend...or next...

I just got this week's lesson finished:

I also added some SID work that wasn't specified, but I really like to have all of my applique stitched around. If I were to do this again, I would probably do a few things in a different order to make the quilting come out differently, but I'm loving it. Can't wait for next week!
