And I think I tend to admire and love my quilt more if I had problems but was able to work through them and end up with a beautiful quilt. I then more appreciate what went into it and feel closer to it. This could end up being your favorite quilt! I know however you decide to do the circles, it will be beautiful!!

One of the things I recently saw at a quilt show was use of a method similar to the one Alex was using, but they stuck a pin in the center adhering to the ironing board. I tried this and it worked so much better, acted like a third hand. Just twirl the circle as you work. Also a a dab of glue is using soft and stable or 2-3 layers of freezer paper might also help if using that. I also was having problems with run away circles. Carol

Barb - I sympathize with you! I was going to use Margo's method and started with the circles first. Since I'm doing the quilt 1/2 size my smallest circles are only 1/4 inch. I got the little cardstock circles made with no problem but when I drew the fabric up around them and ironed them there was no room to get the cardstock back out without destroying the circle. I did what you did - left them laying around like little "dead bugs" for a couple days and, finally "gave in" and decided that raw edge applique was the way for me to go for this project. I love doing the blanket stitch around the applique pieces, it's very relaxing, but I wanted to try Margo's method because I loved her tutorial and wanted to learn a new method. Unfortunately, on such a small scale, it just wasn't working for me. Hang in there and let us know how it's going, okay?

I spent a career birthin' babies, and I am convinced that there is an as-yet-unidentified hormone that produces selective amnesia regarding the miseries of pregnancy and childbirth...otherwise no one would ever do it twice! Could be that the same amnesia hormone works for BOMs too!Originally posted by MargoKind of like childbirth!!

In show 310 you can see how to make really small circles. I was so impressed by how she does itOriginally posted by DestinDebBarb - I sympathize with you! WOW!! Rita your block is fabulous!! And your blanket stitch is perfect!!
Deb, Norma beat me to the punch about show 310. Liuxin shows us that needleturn can be done on a tiny scale! http://watch/watch-shows/video/show-...-at-its-finest
Or....maybe you could use some beads instead of appliqued circles???

Thanks Norma - I had forgotten about that show - I went back and watched that segment again and Liuxin is AMAZING. I might give her method a try but I'm sure mine won't do hers justice. :wink:Originally posted by Zarah
