I'm not sure yet. I don't usually prewash but there is a lot of white in this quilt and I'd hate for the colors to bleed onto it. Guess I can put off the decision for a little while yet - for now I can just enjoy looking at the beautiful fabrics

Unwashed fabric will look different in a finished quilt if it is laundered when it's finished. It will have a more puckery, drawn look, especially if a cotton batting is used.
If you like that look, you can skip the prewashing, but I never skip the test for color fastness to make sure that nothing is going to bleed when the final quilt is laundered.
I take about a 4" square of the fabric I want to test and just put it into a WHITE bowl (I use a Corelle cereal size bowl) with hot tap water. After about 15 minutes, I check to see if there is any color in the water. It will show up well against the white bowl. If I want to use that fabric, I will wash it with detergent and Synthrapol (to release the excess dye particles) and dry it, then do the same test again. Sometimes one wash will do the trick, sometimes it takes another wash with Retayne (to set the remaining dye particles). After the second wash, if it's still bleeding, I will usually throw it away or use it for a project that is not going to be washed.

Here is a picture from my Webshots album showing what to look for:

Check out the previous photo on the Webshots Album to see if you can tell which of the fabrics were the bleeders!

For those of you who have the kit, what type of fabric is the white background for the Hugs & Kisses applique quilt ? Is it the tone-on-tone type of fabric which is transparent ? A solid ?

I'm thinking of doing the pattern but switching out the greens for reds. Love the Whisperings line and the contrast in the pattern/kit, but don't usually work with that much green.

        Thanks for any info !

Being brave, I took a look at the instructions for both BOM.
I THINK the instructions for Stir Crazy are in Hug and Kisses
I hope the right people see this note before it's too close to Jan 1st so they are not scrambling

I'm not sure what "instructions" you are talking about. None will be posted until January 1. If you think there is an error, please send a message to the "CONTACT" link (drop down from DAILY BLOG) as they don't always moniter the forums.

Yes, fabric requirements, but no instructions yet. Because the fabric requirements for both quilts are on the same page, maybe she thought they were mixed up?

No...I'm not confused (at least not this time)
Under each BOM quilt there is an instructional section where there is a write up for each month advising what we will accomplish.
The write ups are the same for both BOM, even though one is pieced and one is applique. It looks like this is the monthly write up for the Stir Crazy quilt, but the same monthly write up is in the Hugs and Kisses quilt (and I know we will not be tackling a feathered star in the Hug and Kisses quilt)
I sent a note to "Contact Us" as Margo suggested. Hope it will be fixed before the first

OH! Good catch, efrank! Those instructions are all for the 2009 "Stars for a New Day" quilt that we are just finishing up.
I'm pretty sure that all of that will be changed as soon as they update with the new patterns for 2010 projects: "Star Crazy" and "Hugs & Kisses".
