My block came out 61/2 by 61/4. Will I be able to adjust the 1/4 inch in the next block?

PegJo and gigiWendy - here's my new block - just finished a few minutes ago. I am glad I decided to make a block that highlighed the halo instead of a plain feathered star. I also discovered that something as simple as the direction the seams were pressed had an effect on whether the points lay flat and showed their matched points properly.

Here's my new block showing halos now in a lighter colour. I also discovered that the star points lay flat and emphasized their alignment if pressed to the sides.

I am having trouble getting my attachment to post. I'll try by turning off wifi and going cellular in case it is a size issue.
            Here's my new block.

It now has a distinct halo or two.

Williamskay, Did you mean 16.5" x 16.25"? Just so I'm not confused. And the answer is Yes, you'll be able to make adjustments for size variation in the next step.

My focus fabric arrived over the weekend, so I washed it. However, after reading about everyone else's, how it's not supposed to stand out too much, I'm wondering if I can use it. Let me know, okay?

Well i just finished my block. What an experience. I have become personally acquainted with my seam ripper.

I attached several of the pieces together backwards as I tried to put the block together in order 1,2,3 etc. Does not work.

I found it easier to do the blocks in sets like they are latest out in the PDF. But also you need to see the short seams first. And it seems to come together.

It is not perfect. But it is my first time paper piecing and it had been a long long time since piecing a quilt. I usual do wholecloth. But i had to make this one.

All the blocks I have seen are wonderful. Love some of the color combinations.

I decided to do the one. Was glad it was piecing instead of appliqué. Not so sure about that now

OK, I have a problem and I am so glad you all are here! I am just starting my Halo block. Printed it out (but no, haven't checked it for accuracy, but after reading the thread, certainly will) but right on Unit 1 I have a problem. I went to add Fabric 2 (red) to Fabric 1 (white) and the Fabric 2 shape is a parallelogram, not a half square triangle, and it's the same in Unit's 6, 7 and 12, the other corners of the block. The red fabric they had us precut is a triangle that won't cover that shape, and it looks to me, from the pictures of the block, that it's supposed to be a HST. Did a miss a revision somewhere? Help!

I had the same issue. I just used scrap strips and covered the area. It works out in the end when the blocks are pieced into the complete block.

Thanks for the reply. I realize now the parallelogram is the star point, and not supposed to be red! (I got the kit this time....) Nice to know there is a place to go with questions!

I have finished my first block and it finished at 16 1/4". I have limited experience at paper piecing so I was pleased that the block was actually near the size it should be. I think I may do some unpicking and resew to try and make the block 16 1/2". Everyone's blocks are beautiful.
