Here in Laval (montreal) it is -12 celcius, but with the wind, feels like -30!

          ARMY STAR block measurements

For this block, I did not use foundation-piecing.... But I did a drawing in EQ7, to double check my measurements.

          Cutting instructions:
          (#16) 4 squares 1 1/2" X1 1/2"
          (#24) 4 squares 1" x 1"
2 squares 2" X 2" (this is for the HST - they will be sewn oversized, and cut to correct size)
(#13) 1 square 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" (just as the "big" quilt: will be cut down to correct size after it is sewn)
          8 rectangles 1" x 1 1/2"
          (#1) 4 squares 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" (as is)
          2 squares 2" x 2" (for the HST)
          (#15) 1 square 1 1/2" x 1 1/2"; 1" square for the appliqué star
          Background (#22) 1 strip 1" x 5 1/2"
          1 rectangle 4" x 5 1/2"
          2 strips 1" x 4 1/2"
          Black (#10) 1 rectangle 4 1/4" x 4 1/2" for letter "A"

Follow step 1, but cut HST at 1 1/2" :

Then, follow step 2 to get the flying geese units. They need to be trim to 1" X 1 1/2": you need to align the 3/4" dot on the point (3/4 on each side is 1 1/2" total):

Next step on the next post (can't upload more attachments on this one)

            Finished flying geese unit:

Then, follow step 3, but you will get units measuring 1 1/2" x 2 1/2".

            Following step 4, you will get units measuring 1" x 2 1/2".

            Following step 5, the units will measure 1 1/2" x 2 1/2".

Step 7, you build the star. The unit will measure 2 1/2" square:

            After step 8, the unit measures 2 1/2" x 4 1/2".
            Step 9, units will measure 1 1/2" x 4 1/2".

Step 10, the block is 4 1/2" square:

Last steps, on the next post...

Step 14, sew the background fabric - strip 1" x 4 1/2" on top and bottom. Press seam as mentioned in the instructions. Then, sew the 1" x 5 1/2" strip to the right side, and the 4" X 5 1/2" rectangle to the left.

Step 15, align the bottom of the letter as per instructions, but at 3" to the left of the seam:

My "finished block" (still haven't decide on the thread...)

                        GRANDMA's CHOICE block
                        Cutting instructions:
                        (#22) 8 squares 2" x 2"
                        (#23) 8 squares 2" x 2"
                        (#4) 1square 1" x 1"
                        (#7) 4 rectangles 1" x 2"
                        Background (#22) 1 rectangle 3" x 4"
                        (#10) 1rectangle 2" x 2 3/4" for appliqué

                        Step 1, unit will measure 4" x 1".

Step 2, make HST units and trim them to 1 1/2".

I prefer to make larger pinwheel and trim them to the correct size.
Follow remaining instructions in step 2 to make the pinwheel. However, instead of pressing the last seam open, I press toward the dark and "undo" the stitches in the middle, to make a "mini-pinwheel" appear:

Then cut the pinwheel to 2" square, aligning the 1" mark to the center of the pinwheel:

                        Next step, next post...

Step 3, follow instructions as they are.
Step 4, join the rows, the block will measure 4" x 4" from raw edge to raw edge.

Step 5, the margin at the bottom of the letter will be 1/2" from the raw edge. Once the background is attached to the block, the bottom of the "G" will be at 1/4" from the seam.

Then, step 6, all sashing are cut to 1" wide (finished size will be 1/2").
                          Cut 1 strip 1" x 8 1/2", and 1 strip 1" x 6 1/2".

Join panel F and panel G with the 6 1/2" strip.
Join panel A to the top of F+G with the 8 1/2" strip.
                          The finished Month 1 measures 8 1/2" x 12".

Will post in Show & Tell once I decide on the thread...
