What's the silliest thing you have done while quilting?

It's very quiet on the forum this weekend so I thought I would start a silly topic. Would you like to play? You have to tell us what is the silliest or most stupid thing you have done with or to your machine while making a quilt. I will start off the topic by telling you about the time that I was trying to quilt a quilt in a hurry but for some reason the machine just kept going slower and slower and slower but the engine was revving away. It turned out that I had placed my thread cone stand too close to the hand wheel and the thread had got caught around the wheel. I had been so pleased with the thread because I got a great bargain cone of 3,600 meters of aurifil thread at a great price. When I finally realized what had happened and eventually got all the thread off (I had to take the hand wheel off and cut a lot of thread) I reckon I had wasted over half the cone. ops: I won't make that mistake again.

I'd have wound it on again

I sewed over a zip and knocked the timing out on my new machine. It cost me £40 to put right

I frequently sew extra pieces of fabric onto the back of my quilts

I was quilting a little pillow using a stencil pattern. I traced the stencil, then set it aside while quilting. Well, I didn't set it aside far enough and the stencil ended up quilting to the back of the pillow. I laugh every time I see all of the little holes in the stencil! And I now put my stencils away as soon as I'm finished marking!

Hmmm, you mean like cutting the triangles off the month one bom strip instead of trimming the seams? Or sewing a supreme slider to the back of the quilt, or melting the pot heating g water for tea?

ops: I measured and measured to make sure my backing was the right size for the anniversary quilt for my parents. Instead of adding an extra six inches, I subtracted six inches and had to piece it back on! OOPS!

I have also been known to sew over pins and really do a great job of reshaping them!

That's an easy task ops: . I did that once. The supreme slider was pulled off by the quilt and was stitched onto the quilt

                  Where do I start?
Forget to pull up the thread guide on Janome 6600 and couldn't understand why my stitches were so tight
( I now have a card that I put under the foot saying PULL UP THREAD GUIDE)
Cut off wrong piece when doing paper piecing.Often!
And I'm sure everyong has strip sewing triangles or squares together only to find that you have run out of bobbin thread and all the little pieces are on the floor.
                  Sewn over needles
Couldn't understand why machine wasn't working NOT PLUGGED IN ops:
I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them at the moment
                  Keep warm

Oh Yeah! electricity always helps. When I was working in a tailors shop you always switch off the electricity when not using the machine because it is so noisy. The number of times I would sit down & try to start sewing without switching it back on...
Trying to machine whilst using the wrong machine pedal - I have a Janome ordinary sm and a Janome overlocker which both use the same connectors for the electricity/foot pedal, but I also have a blind hemmer which is a different set of wires. However I do all my machining at the same place and have to swap the machines & pedals in and out. I have tried to use the blind hemmer pedal any number of times after swapping back to the Janomes to no avail

Like many of the rest of you, its sewing fabric to the under side of the quilt. You'd think I'd learn to clean the table before I sew. This happens most often when I am paper piecing. Somehow the trimming scraps find their way under the quilt.

                          Measure twice....Cut once!

Just be sure that when you mount the backing on the long-arm frame that it is oriented in the right direction or when you get to the end you need to cut 3 inches off one side and add it to the bottom!! NOT FUN!!

Put on my Supreme Slider and then my walking Foot to do some straight line quilting, It took me ages to work out why this was not a good
                            combination ops:

It is refreshing to read that other people have made mistakes too. Another of my all-time favourites (not) is to try to do decorative stitches while my 1/4" foot is still attached. I have lost count of the numbers of needles I have broken. ops:
