What's the silliest thing you have done while quilting?
It's very quiet on the forum this weekend so I thought I would start a silly topic. Would you like to play? You have to tell us what is the silliest or most stupid thing you have done with or to your machine while making a quilt. I will start off the topic by telling you about the time that I was trying to quilt a quilt in a hurry but for some reason the machine just kept going slower and slower and slower but the engine was revving away. It turned out that I had placed my thread cone stand too close to the hand wheel and the thread had got caught around the wheel. I had been so pleased with the thread because I got a great bargain cone of 3,600 meters of aurifil thread at a great price. When I finally realized what had happened and eventually got all the thread off (I had to take the hand wheel off and cut a lot of thread) I reckon I had wasted over half the cone. ops: I won't make that mistake again.Tags: None

I was quilting a little pillow using a stencil pattern. I traced the stencil, then set it aside while quilting. Well, I didn't set it aside far enough and the stencil ended up quilting to the back of the pillow. I laugh every time I see all of the little holes in the stencil! And I now put my stencils away as soon as I'm finished marking!

ops: I measured and measured to make sure my backing was the right size for the anniversary quilt for my parents. Instead of adding an extra six inches, I subtracted six inches and had to piece it back on! OOPS!
I have also been known to sew over pins and really do a great job of reshaping them!

Where do I start?
Forget to pull up the thread guide on Janome 6600 and couldn't understand why my stitches were so tight
( I now have a card that I put under the foot saying PULL UP THREAD GUIDE)
Cut off wrong piece when doing paper piecing.Often!
And I'm sure everyong has strip sewing triangles or squares together only to find that you have run out of bobbin thread and all the little pieces are on the floor.
Sewn over needles
Couldn't understand why machine wasn't working NOT PLUGGED IN ops:
I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them at the moment
Keep warm

Trying to machine whilst using the wrong machine pedal - I have a Janome ordinary sm and a Janome overlocker which both use the same connectors for the electricity/foot pedal, but I also have a blind hemmer which is a different set of wires. However I do all my machining at the same place and have to swap the machines & pedals in and out. I have tried to use the blind hemmer pedal any number of times after swapping back to the Janomes to no avail

Measure twice....Cut once!
Just be sure that when you mount the backing on the long-arm frame that it is oriented in the right direction or when you get to the end you need to cut 3 inches off one side and add it to the bottom!! NOT FUN!!

It is refreshing to read that other people have made mistakes too. Another of my all-time favourites (not) is to try to do decorative stitches while my 1/4" foot is still attached. I have lost count of the numbers of needles I have broken. ops:
