Several of you have asked what 'Warhammer' is. How long have you got?

Here is the shortest version: Past generations played with tin soldiers, re-enacting historic battles, or creating their own. 'Warhammer' is a kind of modern day version. It is based on a fantasy world that is populated by different races (there is a 'Lord of the Rings' version). Players have 'armies' of figures and play against eachother, using quite complicated sets of rules and scenarios. This is not for the faint-hearted. It takes strategic planning, maths, high level reading skills, artistic ability, etc. Most of the boys (11-18) who come to the club are highly intelligent, but not very good at communicating. Through the game they blossom and all awkwardness is forgotten. They learn/practice new skills, or improve the ones they already have. Their overall confidence increases and they have something to look forward to if they generally don't like school a lot. It also keeps them safe one afternoon when otherwise they may roam the streets.

So, if anybody wants to come and join us Thursday afternoons, you are welcome. I even provide biscuits or sweets sometimes.

Lorchen, sounds like loads of fun. I'll be right over, just as soon as they perfect the Star Trek beam mode of transportation.

My friends used to have their teenaged son's friends over all the time to play a game like that - in the US it's based on Dungeons and Dragons. But these kids made their own worlds, their own rules, everything! It's exactly like what you are talking about. How very cool!

Eragon's best friend Rowan used a Warhammer in his fight against Galbratorix. Great listening to it while we quilt!

I just listened to the whole series recently while quilting and yes, doing a lot of driving too. Great story in the background!

Sigh, I just WISH we could get my son David's books published. He has a couple of fantasy series I KNOW you would love. One publisher has had one of his manuscripts that has made it through basic review (less than one percent of the manuscripts do that) for three years now and still they haven't offered a contract. It's most frustrating.

He's going to start publishing longish short stories from his website this year...I'll let you know when that happens.

sending lots of luck and patience david's way - hoping we'll be able to find those books on the shelves of all bookstores soon

Thanks Lotti. Me too! We'd pull the one that has taken so long and send it elsewhere except it's our top choice publisher. I guess it just takes that long to break in as a new author with a major publisher. Shouldn't though..three years is a really long time. It will take at least an additional year after the contract is made. He's so talented. Just have to keep on trying I think. and praying...lots of prayer.

Maybe you should change your thoughts about it. Think and feel how easy this is going to be. Feel how happy you will both be when this contract comes. See how many books he will be selling in no time.
Try it. It doesn't hurt anybody.

Norma, I love you all. You are so wanting to help. I do believe a positive outlook makes a big difference. Thank you for this reminder. A spot of prayer can make the difference too. It's just been a tough road for him so far, but he keeps on writing.

Consider 'self-publishing' of some material that is not with a publisher right now. It might be a start, and you never know what it leads to.

Another idea: Joint venture with Mum. David writes a story and you make a quilt to go with it (or the other way round). I would definitely buy such a book.

Betty Jo, keep up in the loop about what's happening.
