TILDA THREAD

I am transporting the idea of a TILDA THREAD to this message board from other boards I have been on. The idea is simple...

I have been so bogged down this spring by LIFE EVENTS ... good and bad I have been loosing my drive to work on ANY SEWING. I watch quiting DVDs and shows but got very little sewing done. ......( just the christening quilt) ... I now want to dedicate one needle a day to keep me going.

I am making this thread to mark my progress. I am hoping others will joing me and declair what sewing they have done for the day when not much sewing is possible. Maybe we can inspire each other to keep going.

BTW:

It is NATIONAL SEWING DAY..... CELEBRATE BY SEWING AT YOU MACHINE OR JUST A NEEDLE'S WORTH.

Well I had quilt bee today so I got a lot done. I overslept and got there late, around 10:45. We took a lunch break at 12:00 and then I sewed until around 1:15. All of it was by hand, so I sewed probably 5 or 6 needles worth of thread, between 2.5 and 3 feet of sewing two pieces of fabric together. I now have three pieces of fabric, ten feet long each sewn together to make a 10x10 piece of fabric to applique my 59 roses to. So maybe I can get it dyed this weekend and start sewing my roses on.

I've talked about my motto a couple of times on TQS and end each blog with "Til next blog-time, take 15 and do something quilt-y." This refers to the fact that, like your one needle's worth a day makes progress, so does as little as 15 minutes a day spent on quilt-related tasks.

I work from home and often take my lunch hour to sew. For instance, today I started and finished a 3" finished miniature pineapple block. Took only 40 minutes and used time that I might have spent mindlessly watching TV to get a break from the work computer. I've made seven of these blocks (working during lunches and in the evenings) this week.

Sometimes my 15 minutes are spent clearing my cutting table and sorting scraps. More often, those minutes turn into 30 or more and I get quite a lot accomplished.

There are so many things that can be done in a short time. Make a list if you need to and touch on one of them every day, before or after you do your needle's worth. Pretty soon, you'll be caught back up in your projects or excited to be making progress and the inspiration will flow freely.

Okay, I might need this with the kids (two teens) getting out of school. I love them dearly but they often interupt wanting to know what s going on for the day. Can I drive them some place Friends beach mall etc.

So here it goes, I have a few irons in the fire. The first is a bed quilt for me and DH that I really need to get finished quilting. About 3/4 the quilting is done. Then I have started a fabric portrait class on QU which I am stuck with fabric choices. I was doing well until I decided the dark colors were too dark and had to go searching. My SIL is having a baby in Sept. so of course I have bought the fabric for a baby quilt. That is just an idea of whats going on.

Yesterday I spent finding the sourse of itty bitty ants which means tearing everything out of cabinets (kitchen of course) cleaning and investigating until I discovered their entry point outside below the windowin a fondation crack. They have been sprayed and not an ant to be seen since. But needless to say no sewing was done. I didn't even set foot in the sewing room. Today is Saturday and DH and I are planning on cleaning out storage shelving in the basement, so the odds of getting into the sewing room are a bit slim, but I 'll give it a good try. I might get a toe in or glance in since my room is in the basement and on the other side of the wall we will working on. Maybe I can sneek in and DH won't notice. I'll let you know how it goes.[/color][/size]

I ended up not getting even one stitch into fabric yesterday but I work on a quilt alllllllll day long. A while back I started making a four patch kalediscope quilt I wanted to put into a zig zag setting. My GF ( she may be my enemy) talked me into putting it into a Zig Zag Ligtening bolt setting. It was fun until now .... I have to figure out out to get the staggared ends to alll match up.

So yesterday I spent the day trying to figure out how I am going to get this crazy quilt together... Kay was unavailable to ask questions of.... but wait until I get a hold of her today. She got me in this mess now she can help me fix it.

I did not want to go to bed without working on a quilt... even though no sewing was done I count this as sewing cause I was working on my sewing project.... just not with a needle in my hand. ... well this is where I spent my 3 hours in the evening .... getting nothing done.

IF you find the nest try putting yeast granuales with just a few crystals of sugar around the outside of the entrance hole.... The aunts bring the sugar/ yeast mixture into the nest as food... they blow up after eating the yeast.... I use to use this method when I gardened and could not disturb my plant beds.

Best do do this when the ground is DRY.... if the yeast gets tooo wet it blows up prematurely and the ants will not take the bait.

WORTH A TRY, and not harmful to the environment.

Well I had F&P American BOM class today... We are working through F&P Quilting Complete guide. We are also using the AMERICAN SAMPLER booklet. Kay, the instructer says we will be well versed quilters when we finish this block.

We are currently doing simple applique using different techniques. We will be doing English paper piecing (baby ) tumbling blocks next.

Today I got one small heart ( 3 hour class) I was really going good when my DD with my beautiful grandson came to visit the class. Needless to say I got side tracked by his beautiful smile. I did not finish the little blocks we were doing so now I have home work... No big deal cause I have no plans for tonight.


I did find out I sewed my zig zag lightening bolt setting COMPLETELY WRONG.... I sewed them together verticallly when they should have been sewed diagonallly.... Oh Well... I have designed my own way of doing this setting... TOTALLY WRONG ... BUT it will work and my sister won't know or care that it was done MY way instead of the right way.

I'm in that QU class too! Are You Cheryl in gallery 12? If so, it is looking good. I'm finding it so slow going trying to find the right combo of fabrics (even tho I had collected a large stash). I'm enjoying and slowly getting over my intimidation. But I'm afraid I won't have anything put up before the class ends and I so want Marilyn's help with my fabric choices.

Well I didn't use any thread today, yet, but I did spend at least 15 minutes in my sewing room. I trimmed the selvage off the fabric sections that I finished sewing together yesterday, washed the blood off from where I jabbed my finger with a pin, and pressed the seams open. Tomorrow is busy, and with two doctor's appts on Monday, I might be able to get the dye figured out. Then on Tuesday, I can get it dyed. We'll see how it goes.

I am on a roll....


I sewed my blocks together fixing MY BIG GOOF UP. I even decided to make the quilt about 10 inches larger since I realized it was going to be skimpy.

Tomorrow I will sew on the boarders of the quilt. I want to take it to the quilters by the end of the month so I can exhibit it in the quilt show.

I just needed some inspiration. I had been blocked from sewing for the past 4 months and just could not get it in gear... but once the block broke it did it with a vengence.

I can hardly wait until tomorrow.

I sewed 6 hours yesterday and boy am I feeling it this morning... I have sore muscles everywhere. I can barely move... I plan to go for a walk ( On the treadmill, it is safer and more convient )

My borders were cut when I cut the quilt out so now I have to sew them on. I have a few design issues to deal with.

So far I have sewed 24 hours over 6 months... never at the same time .... I have been keeping a time log of this quilt so I know how much time it takes to make an average quilt.

I wonder how much of thie 24 hours is spent unsewing my blocks.

Yes thats me. Marilyn suggested a touch lighter on the darker fabrics, and I thought I had gotten it. But I am still not happy with her. So this is my tilda fo the day. not actual sewing but cutting and trying out different shades. I can't help but think of all the waisted fabric on the floor. I am siriously considering natural skin tones, but that means waiting on an order. I have also done the practice free motion. That was a lot of fun. I think It was neat with the free motion zig zag.

I am making a quilted jacket for my mother. This involves sewing a million 41/2inch blocks together (I guess it only feels like a million) (boooorrrrring). Anyway I worked on it yesterday and finished all the rows and got almost half of the rows sewn together. WoooHooo. At least now it feels like I'm getting somewhere. While I was doing that, I got yards and yards of fabric washed and dried. So yesterday was really productive. Thanks Ladyrags for the thread. Gloria

Today I was able to get some quilting done on the bed quilt. I was at the machine for a couple hours with only a few interuptions. Mostly from the cat sneaking under the bunched up quilt. I turn my head for a second and she would burrow right in. All in all I was able to get some free motion done around 4 blocks. Now I have to get ready for a neighborhood Fathers day picnic that is going to be inside due to weather. Hope everyone else is having a great Fathers Day.

I am making a 14in cushion cover for a friend's 80th it has heirloom free motion quilting of a heart in the centre with diagonal grids inside it and stipple quilting outside the heart shape (which was 1 of the reasons i wanted to make this cover to practice free motion quilting) and 125 pearl beads that were attached by hand. so today i put the cording on around the edge and put the zipper in the back of the cover hopefully on Wednesday i will be able to sew both pieces together and it will be completed.
