Rachel,
Glad you're getting you CW done. I know what you mean about ants. Bugs are fine outside, but I don't want them in the house. I got the binding sewn on my quilt yesterday and the day before. I'm starting to sew it down on the back. It's going slower than I'd like, I'm using a new batting and I don't like it. I bought it off a roll years ago and don't remember what it is. And it's 89 here too, but will get warmer later.

I have not done to much actual sewing this week... I find I am doing most of my sewing on the weekend. I do most of the grunt, leg work on the week nights... ie cutting / planning/ setting up the sewing session.
I am excited this weekend I am taking a workshop with Ami Simms here in the Flint area. It should be fun.

This week I am getting my stuff togther to go to this workshop...
It is a combination applique and piecing class with some new techniques... I will report back next week.

2 am and I am still awake... I have been watching QUILTING DVDs I got for my BD (late present) from my hubby. I have also been stitching on my applique hearts for my BOM quilt.
Tomorrow is my work shop with Ami Simms... I guess I had better get to sleep before I can not open my eyes in the am.
BTW
I got Sally Collins PRESESION PIECING... very good
Ann Falls Color with Thread...
I have three other but I will view them tomorrow when my eyes are actually open...

Haven't done much actual sewing the last few days, but I've been updating my quilting journal. I started it when I started making quilts to keep track of them. I record the stats of the quilt, lessons learned, why I made it, and what was going on in my life at the time. I glue fabric samples for most of the quilts. I left room for a pic cuz I knew somehow I'd eventually be able to include photos. That's what I've been doing--adding photos. I take the pics with my digital, download them to my computer and then to the little memory stick thingy, take it to Walmart and have prints made. 15 cents per print!! What a deal! I couldn't print them that cheap at home! It feels so good to have my journal up to date. Maybe my kids will fight over it someday.

I've been playing with my newest toy, a Singer 411G treadle. The head was made in Germany around 1959 or so, and a fellow in Canada had heard that I was looking for one, and when he found one, I bought it. He shipped it the same week we left on vacation to go to GA and NC. I had arranged to swap another old Singer head for a "modern" treadle base made around the same time as the German/Canadian head. When we got home Wednesday, the machine head had arrived. It took me about 10 minutes to get all the bubble wrap undone, that man really knows how to pack a machine for safe shipping. He included the motor in case I ever want to put it back in (not likely), and the attachments and manual were also there, along with the salesman's card--the machine cost just under $300 when it was new--don't know what that would be in today's dollars. When looking in the manual, it shows both electrical and treadle use, and the treadle base in the pictures was exactly the same as the one I had just brought home from NC (a lady in FL had brought it to NC so we could swap)! What are the odds? DH helped me get the head into the cabinet (she's a heavy brute) and last night I tried out a bunch of her fancy stitches. She will also use two regular needles, set side-by-side in the needle clamp, for fancy stitching. I have a lot of other stitch cams that will work in this machine, too, but haven't tried them out yet. Can you tell I'm a very happy camper?

Ann, you can come and play with my machines any time. I think I have 24 treadles now, and about 14 hand cranks, and 3 FWs (but I'm going to sell 2 of those, got them in trades and don't need 3), 3 or 4 Singer 301s, and an electric Singer 319 that hasn't been plugged in since we moved to Texas, poor thing. And then there are a few parts heads lurking around here, and maybe a couple other machines I've forgotten......
And one more thing about the 411G, it has a special needle plate with it that lets it do chain stitching, all I have to do is take out the bobbin and put that needle plate on, it's just too cool.

I just got home from my workshop with Ami Simms and I was so inspired ! I learned how to do invisible applique using the ladder Stitch. I was amazed at how my applique improved in just one short session... MY STITICHES ARE TRUELY INVISIBLE!
In the afternoon we leaned how to do hand piecing using the same technique... it will make my projects so much easier. I am getting out my hand projects to work on them .... I had put them away cause I was not too happy with them. These techiques were so easy.
I also signed up for a hand dyeing class in August... I always wanted to hand dye but was afraid to try... this looks like something I would enjoy.
I love portable projects.
