Love the retreat sewing room. I'm listening...does someone have a plan?

Wow, Annis! Your retreat classroom is amazing! How many work stations do you have in there? I'm anxious to hear how your retreat went this week, and am so glad that the flood clean up took place in a timely manner!

Dawn, there are 18 work stations, but there have been as many as 24. This is the 3rd time this group has been here. I don't retreat with them but have done a demo for them and a show & tell. I plan on doing a show & tell for them tomorrow of the bed runners and red & white quilts I've been making for the other building which will be finished soon. This building is usually set up for family gatherings with picnic tables. I found the folding tables that fit over the picnic table benches after a long search on the internet. They were being discontinued so I got them at a great price.

What about a virtual retreat? I have no idea how it would work, but we can all pretend! If DH, DS or DD ask me to run an errand, I can just say I'm not really here, I'm at a quilting retreat!

              Brenda,
I think a virtual retreat would be a great idea. We could start a new thread, so this one doesn't get too congested. Day one, Each of us could post a picture of our work space or project we are working on. Day two and subsequent days could be each person posting a picture or just a few lines about that day's progress. Perhaps committing to one week of at least 30 minutes in our work space daily, and then posting about it, would be a new type of retreat. Each person could make their own actual commitment because some of us are more social and others are more task oriented. If this sounds like an idea you'd like to run with, let me know. People could join in at anytime or it could be a specific week.

I like the idea. If you start such a thread post it here. I'd like to join in.

Sounds like a good motivator! Depends on which week you choose.

We will be away some of the summer. Another son's wedding... that'll make 4 of 4. And then I'll be done with the mother-of-the-groom period of my life. Now what?

I just put up a new topic, Virtual Retreat

Hope you all can find it. It's meant to be enjoyable, so please, make your retreat your way. I think that we may get several ways to do this and be able to tweak a few specific ones out for the future!!!

Sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately I am midway through adding more storage to the sewing room at the moment and DH is demanding that I completely redesign the room (including painting, decorating, flooring, lighting etc and everything!) I just cannot 'see' it in my mind's eye yet, as I need to do some clearing first - which needs storage to put stuff away in, so that I can sort out what to chuck. So I can't do one without the other one being done, and I can't work out the second one, because I haven't been able to do the first one - or something like that.

A couple of weeks ago when he first suggested this, I came up with the idea of moving the computer desk away from the window, where it currently is and replaced it with my sewing machine, but he didn't seem too keen on that idea :S fellas!

Just hope my sewing room isn't going to be out of commission for too long, I've got a miniature to finish....

Pop on over to the virtual retreat anytime. Maybe designing that room could be your project,, putting in a specific amount of time each day, or week, on it and showing your DH that you are making progress. If it's only one shelf sorted that's a major accomplishment for most of us.
I don't think we ever get finished arranging our work space, it's the most evolving thing in my life.
                        Take care

Rosemary if you don't mind living with some piles of the items you want to keep for a while, rather than putting them away in storage containers, it might make it easier to get the storage stuff when you know just exactly what you have to store. I usually test my luck and do it in the opposite order and then wonder why I did that.
Good luck and I can't wait to see your new and improved room!

Karen, the storage I am talking about is shelving on the walls; 4.2 metres of cupboard space (that's probably about 4.5 yards) :woohoo:. And to make space to get to part of the wall I have had to move 1/2 a ton of stuff (projects in bags, fabric, boxes of wadding etc.) to the other side of the room and it is now blocking access to my sewing machine and work table. I feel bereft not being able to get to my machine  I have been living with piles of things for quite some time, but now I want to get things organised and tidy. The clutter is weighing me down and stopping me from enjoying my sewing. Sometimes you just have to say enough is enough and do something about it .

Ah you're talking REAL storage huh. Sounds like a big project that will make you so happy in the end. I hope you can get to sewing very soon!
