Time of day for watching shows

    Hi,
I use Firefox as internet browser on a Win 7 computer with fibre optic broadband connection and for a long time now I have noticed that I can really only watched TQS shows in the morning and early afternoon GMT - in the evenings they keep showing a couple of seconds before the dreaded turning circle returns then another couple of seconds to watch and sometimes it says I have no internet connection although if I switch to other sites and watch videos there it is no problem. Although i try to avoid watching in the evenings tonight I wanted to watch a show (Thanks by the way for getting the chapter thing sorted) to check some information and once again I can't. As soon as it comes up with ! check your internet connection I switch to BBC TV iPlayer and there isn't a thing wrong - it plays beautifully :!:
Is your server not capable to cope with our demands any longer?
Speedtest results in between trying to watch is:
Ping 15ms; Download speed 23.71 Mbps
    Any suggestions?
    Marianne in Cardiff UK

PS I have the latest version of Flash installed

Marianne, I experience the same problem and have been thinking if we are too many watching at the same time now. You describe it so very well, but I know that TQS not always tracks this forum, so please send your question to Bob at this link contact

I am meeting with our Video company tomorrow to talk about this problem. It seems to be worse now that we have switched to their Version 3 update. Please remember to go to the lower right of the checkerboard and click on it. Then choose "Low" for the quality. It doesn't reduce it much, but the circle comes up a lot less. (I was in a gymnasium this weekend at the Atlanta Super seminar and used this approach with success.) Also, start the program, then pause. Go get some coffee/tea and let the buffer read in some of the show. Then start again. Please try this and let me know if it improves the response. We pay a lot of money to get the best service on the net and we will follow up to make sure we are getting it. Keep me updated.

Thank you for replying, John! I did try the Low quality setting which then made me able to watch about 10 sec at a time before the circle re-appeared. I will try letting the buffer run for a while and see how I get on doing that. I will report back. I hope the company can offer you a solution so we can enjoy the shows whatever the time of day.

I spoke with Ooyala. We will be doing a test of our speeds and I will contact you when it is set up. Also, he mentioned a standard caution, be sure your internet is secure and people aren't piggy-backing onto it at night. Also, try to see the show with Chrome and see if it is better. They are also contacting their UK branch to test our shows. One suggestion was to have one of your friends who has a similar set up go to our sight and play the free show. See if they get the same results.

I'll set the test up next week.

I also have been having the same problem and live in New Jersey, USA. I have very fast internet speed, have the latest version of Flash and also have Chrome. I never had a problem watching the shows until recently when I guess you installed a new version. I have no problem watching videos on other sites - only here. Therefore I think the problem is with The Quilt Show site. I hope it can be resolved as I have stopped trying to watch the shows for now.

John, I have spoken to 2 other UK members of TQS and they have the same experience as me. Our Internet is secured and seeing there is no problem watching other shows like Sewing with Nancy, BBC iPlayer TV and ITVplayer when I have problems with TQS shows I'm afraid the problem is your end. I haven't yet had time to try buffering in the evening. Sorry but I'm no longer a Chrome user and have no intention of trying it again - not even to watch TQS shows :P
Thanks a lot for trying to sort the problems out.

I live in Denmark and have the same problems. I have the secure Internet and normally use Chrome. It helps to use the low setting. I tried to switch to Firefox. Maybe it was a bit better but not much.
The latest show went so well without doing anything when I suddenly was cut off. I went back to the View Show and started from where I was cut off and after that there were no problems. My Internet connection was there all the time.
Thank you for helping on this issue

Let's try several approaches to solving this problem. Here is a link to the current show on the older Version 2 player. Does this perform better? daily-blog/
I believe this version does not work well on the Kindle.

I'll try that link tonight, John. Frankly, I figure it's our high speed internet services that still get bogged down, because loading yahoo groups and mail is slower at night. I LOVE the way the shows work on my HD Kindle,

John, this worked absolutely smooth on my system. No interruptions, just to enjoy. The automatic resolution setting chose medium.

                          Hi John,
It is 9.15 PM here in Cardiff, UK and I am writing this while the show runs very smoothly in the background. Not a single stop so far and I'm a very happy bunny. I can't tell you if this version can run on a Kindle because I haven't got one; the computer is the only option I have for watching shows. Thanks for trying this out for us. I hope you can find a solution to keep us all happy.

Finished watching the show you linked to John and had one stop for a brief moment but the player picked itself up again with no further problems. I then thought I had better try another show but this time in the new player and that went well for about 10 minutes before it stopped with the circle and then informed me that I had lost internet connection which was not true as DH all along has been reading online and firing e-mails off. Got that show running again for a few minutes until the picture came to a stand still and the sound continued for a little while and it stopped completely.
                            Hope this feed back helps

We are going to do some more testing, but until we figure it out, please note that on the show video page we have a new button in the upper right corner. This uses version 2 that seems to work better for some of you. You may click on the button and use that format. We have set up the recent shows this way and will work on the others.

Kindle/Android people be aware of this button also. You want the Version 3 player.
