Disappointed: Paid content shouldn't have ads.

I'm a new subscriber. Current practice in online media is that if you pay for content, you need not suffer through advertisements.

I was very disappointed that my paid quilt show content includes advertisements in the videos.

The only content that I pay for that still has advertisements is cable tv. Do you really
want to be in that category? :-(

Netflix, youtube, spotify, amazon prime, are all examples of providers where paying a fee comes with (the expected) ad-free content.

I presume that the membership fee we pay would be significantly higher if TQS would not have sponsors who get that little bit of time during the shows to remind us who they are and what products they sell. I rather be able to afford the membership and have these very few and short adverts. They are not even long enough to make a cup of coffee. You can always fast forward them. And think of all the valuable extras that membership brings!

I've never had a problem with the ads, in fact I really like some of the Bernina ones. In my opinion, what we pay for the subscription to the best "quilt guild" in the world is minor compared to all the wonderful info we get. I have made some wonderful friends here.

I think the TQS owners would seriously laugh to have themselves compared to the multi-million/billion dollar industries of Amazon, Google and Youtube. I pay $100 a year for my Amazon Prime membership and I see advertising out the wazoo every time I log onto Amazon to even select a video.

Sorry, Lisa, I must respectfully disagree with you on this one.

However, I really wish the Bernina and Gammill advertisements would get changed once in awhile. I want to smack those models silly after watching them for years. Not Linda Taylor, of course.

Lisan, Sorry you were disappointed at first. When I think of all I have learned in the few years I've been a member it is just astounding. I recently completely a project using in excess of 10 different techniques I hadn't even thought of prior to membership. That doesn't count the wealth of advise and help freely and quickly given in the Forum from member/expert quilter's from all over the world.

If you buy a quilting magazine you get adverts in there too. And the weekend newspapers are at least half full with adverts of all sorts of irrelevant junk. Those are all 'Paid Content' items. This Site is so much more than just the shows with a couple of 'relevant' ads (although I agree with Sue about changing them out once in a while)

Sorry you're not happy but come and hang out in the forum and you will find there is so much more going on here, that you won't notice them - I don't.

I agree you are talking about different things, and its the price that makes the difference also, and I agree with Lorchen they are not on long enough to bother me at all, the costs are kept down because of sponsors

Lisan, I too, am sorry you are not happy. Please consider how little a Star Member pays annually and realize how important paid commercials are to bring us this quality website. There is considerable cost involved in paying for the staff, locations, taping, editing, and for the incredible guests (no, they do not do it for free!). And there's no telling what other costs are involved that I haven't given a second thought to. There may not be commercials during the shows on PBS for example, but the shows are definitely shorter because the commercials are there, just at the beginning and end.

Hopefully you will give consideration to that next time you watch a show or visit the site. I'm not crazy about the commercials, but at least it's pleasant to see the beautiful photography in them. At last we are treated to quality rather than stupidity, suggestiveness, and blatantly disgusting content. Give me TQS any day over network!

Please also consider the special technique classroom shows that are offered such as the current BeColourful videos now being shown, and Ricky's Lady of Shallot classroom now happening. There's never a dull moment at TQS!

I have made many wonderful, worldwide friends through the show, and learned about hundreds of incredible quilters and techniques I would never have dreamed of.. and I wouldn't give that up for the world! Some of us have even formed a side group of TQS members who make quilts for soldiers injured in combat and for others who have had significant challenges in their life.
TQS is not just a 'TV' show..it's a lifestyle to enjoy and embrace. Without those few ads and commercials, it probably wouldn't be possible to produce, thus it would sadly disappear.

You are not the only one :P

I just click on the next chapter on the side when the ads appear and thereby avoid them although the one where the next show is advertised I let run through. Nice to see what is on the menu before chalking a date in the diary to watch.

Susan, maybe we should suggest to Bernina that they use some of us members and make some new adverts. They don't have to be quite as 'polished', but I would love to see Rita sing a wee Irish song in honour of the 630, or Ritzy seductively stroking her quilt as it's quilted by a computerised Gammill, or......... Rosemary getting a Bernina 730 delivered and dropping her old machine in the dustbin behind the house,..... the possibilities are endless. I volunteer to take part, flying to Houston, attending a workshop at the show and having a temper tantrum in the classroom because the machines in the room are not Berninas.

Put me on the list too. I'd like to give one a try. Haven't had the opportunity.

Lorchen, You are looking quite stylin'!!!

                            Lorchan,
I didn't recognize you on your new avatar...you look fantastic.
It was great meeting up at FOQ, I still owe you a coffee.....if you are ever in my neck of the woods please drop in you would be most welcome.
Glad to hear that you enjoyed your holiday.
How is it being back at school  I expect you are enjoying it.....NOT
                            Anne
PS. I think the price we pay for the TQS membership is fantastic value and I wouldn't be without it, it's the first thing I look at when I put the laptop on in the morning.
Like others I have learned such a lot and I personally don't buy quilt magazines as I think they are a waste of money....I would much rather spend my money on a book like Yoko Saito's "Houses Houses Houses"
                            Happy quilting

I wasn't going to comment here but I changed my mind. I, too, am sorry you are unhappy about the ads but(and this is a big but) when the site first became available those ads were what made the shows possible. I am not part of the accounting crew on the site but my suspicion is that they are still the reason the shows are possible.

I would like to see new adds too but me being seductive would probably make everyone laugh so hard that they would miss the point of the ad completely but it sure would be fun AND entertaining!

                              Looking great Lorchen.
