    Show 1311 - Lyric Kinard

I just watched this show and really enjoyed it. What a wonderfully talented woman Lyric Kinard is. I loved the way she explained the techniques she used. And her work is beautiful. Thanks for a great show TQS. Now to find a thermofax machine......

Fabulous show. Did you notice how balanced the colors were in her clothing and the background? And on the photo on the frontpage. We can think color theory from that. I took a class from her on Quilt University last year. It was very good.
Rita, if you find such a machine, I want to order some prints  . I investigated Thermofax machine last year. You can buy them new but they are rather pricey, so I did not order.

This was a fabulous show to watch. I hope people who make traditional quilts will not be put off by the fact that Lyric Kinard makes art quilts because there is so much to learn from this show whatever quilts we make. It is one of the shows I will watch again and again just like the older TQS shows. I sadly missed taking the Quilt University class so I am really pleased to have the opportunity to watch this show.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could have Lyric Kinard teach a class right here at the TQS classroom :?: That will go on my wish list for father Christmas :P

Lyric's show was awesome. I'm fascinated with the printing technique.

Remembering Thermofax from teaching days, I've tried to locate them in schools in my area. Evidently, they were a fire hazard and have been removed. Some lucky person in a technology recycle spot may have a field day if knows what she has.

These videos show a different process for making screens, probably a bit less expensive than buying a new style Thermofax machine. I can't even find such a machine. All I see area machines for making tattoo stencils. Does anyone know if this is the same process?
Alert: Dick Blick videos are a source of hours of lost quilting time.

              Quilt University alternative is http://www.academyofquilting.com/

Joann Winn's classes reside now. Most but not all of the Quilt University teachers moved platforms.

The Studio bought a thermofax machine just before Ruth took ill Rita and once she is back on her feet we will be making screens and selling them or your own design. There are lots of places in the UK you can buy screens. Maybe a workshop on screen printing at the LLQS would be well attended
