I agree, it was a brilliant show.
Nice to see that Bernina have caught up with Singer - my gran's old hand crank Singer machine came with a ruffler foot, they are so clever and wonderful if you hate doing gathers  although I always call it a 'snudger-upper' because it snudges the fabric up  Mine also has a screw adjustment that alters the depth of fabric that is snudged up as well, so it can be a really deep tuck or a barely there tuck or anything in between.

I have just watched this great show. We learn so many new techniques from each new show. Our own MargaritaW is on the front row right hand side (as we look)on the aisle, wearing a waistcoat with flying geese up each side, the same as in her profile photo. The gentleman next to her is her husband, who's name I think is Joe. I waved to you Margarita

That was very helpful. I have a quilt that I want to add beads to and this is great information. Just waiting for the time to do it.
I used a ruffler attachment many years ago. Thanks for the reminder if I ever need to do ruffles again. I also made many ruffles by adjusting the tension on my sewing machine and using a clear satin stitch foot. I'm not sure if this works on all machines but it did on my older Janome. It actually did gathered ruffles instead of pleated ruffles.

The ruffler for my featherweight looks just like that and also makes gorgeous ruffles!
I've got to tell you that Tom is as delightful in person as he is on this show. I am honored that he made a block for my "Bouquet of Friendship" quilt:

(Click twice on the photo to see the details!)
Because my husband always said that "quilts should not rattle", I asked that Tom skip the buttons and beads, but all of the thread work is meticulously done by hand, and is absolutely perfect!

When I saw the first segment on Tom Russell on TQS I really hoped they would do more. I love what he does with both his designs and his embellishments. I loved his button and sequin samplers. They reminded me of Sue Spargo's samplers. So pretty. Wish we could have seen more of his quilts. Maybe they will do a slideshow at some point?
I have been a button collector for years and had to restrain myself at the IQFOI where there was a stall with lots of buttons. I did buy a few though 8) I take the buttons off old shirts, skirts, coats etc., before they are recycled. And one of the cheapest ways to get beads is to go to the cheap fashion stores (Penneys/Primark here and in the Uk) and buy the jewellery. Lots of interesting combinations there.
Another great show from TQS. Looking forward to 1102!

There is an online company in the UK who do beautiful buttons - and also that lovely embroidery thread that Sherry Reynolds loves at very reasonable prices. Here's a link:

I am definitely going to make a trip to the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham next year.
