603 - Karla Alexander.... ALEX, Really!

Great show, as ever. Really liked the stack method and how it gave a common theme but mixed it up too.

    But Alex....

    If you're the boss.....

HOW can you invite Gayle Hillert on the show, have her show us some yummy ideas and then tell her she's running out of time???!!!???

Either give her more segments, even a whole show or don't tease!!! It's not fair to rush through like that with so many ideas to impart!

Alex, that was another great show! I'd like a show just dedicated to all the machine techniques--that was fascinating! I'd like to learn more great ideas for using the memory on my Bernina. I need all the help I can get!

I, too, loved the sewing machine techniques and could watch a whole show of them. There's so much to learn about these machines and what they can do. I got real excited about the applique! I'll probably watch and rewatch that section a lot.

What I do not understand is why they no longer give out DVD/ VCR tapes with detailed instructions as part of the package. When I bought my first REAL machine ( New Home Memory Craft AKA first Janome) back in 1986 it came with a video instruction and written manual and work book. I took the classes but had fall back instruction on how to use the sewing machine with all the bells and whistles on the video was great since I lived so far from the dealer.

It would not be that hard to tape all the instructions and give out set of DVD with the machine... need to learn how to use your zipper foot, make a button hole, use your BSR... IT WOULD ALL BE ON THE DVD. Just select the chapter you need.

I think this should be standard operating practice for ALL SEWING MACHINE COMPANIES.

I loved the demo of the braided or twisted thread!

Lady Rags, I happen to agree with you. However, having been a former sewing machine dealer I can offer another side of that idea. It's my opinion the sewing machine companies are wanting *us* to go back to our dealer instead of giving (or selling) DVD's that will keep us at home. They're trying to help the dealers stay in business and are encouraging them to have classes, clubs, etc. to draw customers back to the store in hopes of more business.
I'm not saying it should be one way or the other.....just suggesting that this could be the reason.
The companies I sold for offered videos for the TOL machines and said it was very costly. The production, time, and talent behind the videos added up to a large sum with the turn over of new machines so quick. I certainly don't know the answer but felt I wanted to voice another possible reason for your concerns.
