Disappointed

I must say that I'm a bit disappointed in The Quilt Show. It often seems to be one big advertisement for Bernina & other products. I have & use & am devoted to Pfaff. And even some of the guest quiltmakers are promoting their products. I would like to cancel my subscription -- I've yet to watch one full show.

I'm sorry you do not find anything helpful, inspiring, or enticing in The Quilt Show. Perhaps you should actually make yourself finish a show or better yet fast forward through the commercials you so dislike.

Personally, TQS has exceeded my every expectation and more! Not only have I been inspired to try things I would have never tried before, I have had exposure to artists that I never ever would have been able to meet or learn their techniques. Now, add into that the wonderful community of quilters and friendships I have gained and well, it's been a pretty overwhelming wonderful experience.

If you are really this disappointed, you should contact TQS by clicking on the "CONTACT" button and let them know all of your dislikes. I'm sure they want to know what people like as well as what they do not like. I know as a business owner myself that the only way I know that something isn't working is if a customer actually contacts me to let me know. Try it -- I think you will be pleasantly surprised by their receptiveness.

I think you are being unfairly critical if you are not viewing a whole show or taking advantage of some of the other features of TQS.
Many members love their machines (not Bernina) and have some favorite helpful products not seen here. Your Loss!

May I please remind you that for this site to continue it needs to have money. Bernina is one of the companies suppling money to keep the site going. I believe this site is like everything else in life--you have to get involved; dig around; see what you can find; make suggestions on how to make it better--participate. Sorry you are disappointed; I, for one, cherish the friendships I have made on this site and will continue to support it as long as I can afford to do so.

Once again we need to remember that not every one likes vanilla. But I always made my kids at least take a taste. They now do the same thing with their kids but call it a "no thank you" taste. How can you decide you don't like something if you really haven't tried it? It's a shame you haven't given the episodes a chance by watching an entire show. The shows are very inspirational to many quilters and a great learning experience. Many members live in rural areas with no access to an LQS, teachers and tools; for those people, the showing of books, tools, etc. is a great way to learn about new things in the quilting world. Many members on TQS have become friends and most everyone is supportive of each other. Bernina is a sponsor of the site, which helps keep it available to us members. You can always fast forward to the 1-2 ads during the episodes!

I have to chime in here. We are so quick to judge without giving something a full chance.
Like Ritzy said, the site needs sponsors to continue. Do you stop watching your favorite TV program because of the commercials? Probably not.
There are members here who have dial-up service!! Until the dvds came out, they'd never even seen a show!! But they're here because there's so much more to TQS than the videos. Don't get me wrong-I love the shows and watch each one more than once.

Don't give up on us yet 8) .

I just have to speak up here. Much as I like the shows, they are a very small part of what this site has to offer. Whenever, I see a comment such as this, I go to the member's profile to see what she has given to the site in terms of quilts in the gallery, personal photos, involvement in challenges, BOM's, etc., blogs or any of the other features that make this site so diverse and meaningful. When the member's profile is completely empty, it's hard to see much involvement in what this site is really about. As in anything else, I feel that I get back in proportion to what I contribute. It's important to see what is in other parts of the site, not just the shows. Marge, a member from day 1!

I am a huge Quilt Show fan but it is a very small part of what this site has to offer.I am amazed at what I learn from these other artists and love to be exposed to all things quilting. From the little tips to the discussions,I know I can always find an answer. It is surprising to me how much I've come to care about people I've never met (but hope to someday as they share their lives)I think I heading toward blogging next in my quilt show journey.not to mention my 2 quilting heros Alex Anderson and Sue Garman. Also love Ricky but I really want to design and create like Sue.Never met anyone who was disappointed in TQS but different strokes I guess.I am surprised at how little a chance you gave it.

Terri, I'm more than willing to share a "great mind" that has thoughts like these. Marge ( By the way, I have Janome and wouldn't trade for any other.)

It's easy to ignore the advertising that is unsuitable for you. Like, when a new book is talked about I check it out. Sometimes I buy it, but more often I don't.

I strongly advise that you actually watch a few programmes from start to finish in order to get an idea what the shows are really like. After that, spend some time in the "Quilt Gallery" (not a single Bernina in sight), check out the "Callenges" and "Show & Tell" (such fun), browse some of the members' blogs (there may be the odd mention of a sewing machine brand there), read some of the "Stories", and then decide what you think about TQS.

I have been thinking about this all day. I hope disappointed comes back to check out responses because I think we are all pointing out what makes this site so special. I love my Janome but I watch the Bernina videos. I don't have a #57 foot but it looks like one of mine and maybe I can figure out how to make it do what Nina is doing. I love having Alex and Ricky and Sue and Margo and Theresa and all the rest of you who teach and encourage and support at my fingertips any time of the day.
