    John Flynn quilt frame

Has anyone purchased the John Flynn quilt frame, if so , how did you get on with it. I am based inthe UK(Wales) so I am not sure if he posts overseas. I watched the demo on his webside and it looked really good. If anyone out there could give me their opinion I would be most grateful.

    Maria,
There was an earlier thread talking about quilt frames. I found it by going to the forum main page and click on "Search Forum Topics" then putting John Flynn Quilt Frame in the search box. It is under Basic Machine Quilting Advice.

I have to correct my comments here because I was thinking I had read in here that some are not happy with it, but on the contrary, there were many who like it very much!

He sure does make it look easy, doesn't he. Makes me wonder about using it with my handiquilter. Hmmmm. Sitting down. Hmmmmm. That's why I bought the sit down table for it. Hmmmmmm.

Just put in Flynn frame in the search and you get many references.

Maria, if you can go to Malvern this weekend there are the people from Freestyle Machine Quilting Frames down in the marquee. You can have a play and they are really helpfull. I couldn't believe how easy it was to move the machine!!!

The website is http://www.marysiasquilts.co.uk/ and they are based in Herefordshire.

        Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the helpful advice i've recieved. I will deliberate on it for longer. I can free motion quilt easily on smaller items but my shoulders are tired fom "quilt wrestling" with a larger quilt. By the way I am going to Malvern on Sunday so I'll look out for the quilting frame.
          Thanks to all

Hi, about the john flynn frame, I don't know about that one, BUT, did buy the freestyle frame mentioned by Amo. well, couple of things, it needs a support which is not supplied. When I bought mine last year, they suggested trestles which I bought. Mine was only the 6 ft one, so would only quilt a 5ft quilt. BUT, the rails are aluminium and without support all the way underneath the rails would bend in the middle with the weight of the machine, so when you let machine go, it would slide to middle!! also, there was no facility for using the foot pedal with your hand, and the cord would catch on the frame when you were sewing, bringing the machine to an abrupt halt! SO, sold it couple of months ago. What I am really saying is, you need to have it fully supported on a table and I would NOT recommend it.

Thanks Lynn, I went to Malvern and tried the quilt frame out. I think the positioning of the foot control could be awkward as you have to keep stretching your foot out! Maybe I'll just start making quilt-as-you-go projects which are easier to handle, thanks anyway
