Annie Smith on Show 209
I've been a listener of Annie Smith's podcasts, and like Alex, think that she has one of the friendliest voices you'll ever hear. Thank you for bringing her to the Quilt Show. She does wonderful interviews, but did a great job as the one being interviewed today. I agree that as quilters, we often are too drawn to the color choices, but forget the importance of contrast to make our quilts shine.

I'm also a big "Annie" fan and longtime listener to her podcasts and hope we can "see" more of her. I thought she commented awhile back plans were in development for some kind of "videos" on her website - this would be great as "seeing" her tips and techniques work better for me then just "listening"!
My biggest regret is I don't live closer as would love to take in one of her workshop/lectures if I ever had the chance.

Where do I find these? I am interested in seeing one of her podcasts. I have had trouble viewing podcasts before. i use AOL but I have Verizon Fios which is fast. Maybe the AOL is the problem. Or maybe the Fios is too fast. I had trouble viewing the videos at thequiltingschool .com And they don't have a customer support or email address that I could find. Jan

Annie's podcasts can be found at her website http://www.simplearts.com. On the right banner there are links to some of her favorite interviews, and she also provides an episode guide so that you can listen to any of her previous podcasts.

I enjoyed the show so much...I went to her web page and read all of her newsletters. There was one that really struck home....she talked about getting in a slump of quilting and went back to knitting for awhile. I was so relieved to hear that!!!! I thought I was the only one who got burned out at times!!!! Thanks so much for the insight and writing about it!!!!

klg727,
I've been fighting a slump for almost a year now. What number is the one about this topic?
Ricky told us at the seminar to sit down at the machine and sew anything-half square triangles, you name it. Don't wait for the "muse" or inspiration. Keep going and it'll come back. It sounded like he's been there, done that.

I also really enjoyed this episode. I listen to Annie's podcast, so it was fun to see her "in action"!
I loved her idea for covering foam core with batting to make a mini design board - what a great idea! I definitely would like to do that.
Does anyone have an idea of what the best adhesive would be to stick the batting to the foam core? I'm having trouble deciding how to adhere that. :?:

The 505 adhesive spray might work or a glue stick. I've always made my boards from cardboard covered with flannel and I brought the flannel to the back of the cardboard and used my hot glue gun to secure it. I would assume the hot glue would melt the foam core board. I want to make more of these boards since all of mine are in use right now.

I'm still trying to figure out how I can have a design wall. Ricky told us that it should be the first order of business when we got home. I've described my sewing area ad nauseum so I won't go into it again. Suffice it to say I have no solid wall to put up a design wall. I need something at least 4 ft x 4 ft so I can put decent sized pieces on it. <sigh> :? Any ideas?

Eileen, this is what I have because I have two sliding glass doors at the back side of our Texas house that are very vulnerable to theives if they were not covered etc. I had two 4x8 pieces of plywood that we used to cover the doors. I covered them with one layer of batting and two layers of white flannel. I buy the drapery flannel (extra wide) when I have a 40%off coupon for one cut of fabric from Hancock's (I use flannel for batting for a lot of my projects- I will explain why in a blog one of these days)
If I were to do it over I would have gotten insulation board or foam board of some type and put on the plywood first. - in our case the plywood is to slow a burgler down if one tries to break in through the glass doors but the foam board could be used alone.--- others have mentioned using the foam board because you can use push pins if you need to pin something up or even just pin with your quilting pins into the board. I have to pin things to the flannel if I am going to leave them up for a while and it is futzy ( I think that is how you spell Ricky's word fussing around with something LOL)
Anyway long answer to short question but any size plywood or foam board would do -even make two of three smaller ones and use them separately or hinge them together like a room divider and if done like a room divider put flannel on both sides whoo hoo now you have two design walls just turn them around hey I may do that for the motor home but small (sometimes I surprise myself when I try to solve someone else's problem and I get an idea for myself)
Hope this rambling makes sense to you - if not e mail me and I will try to explain it better
