Putting a new back on an old quilt

My mother-in-law has just bought a quilt at the "Longest Yard Sale" for me, and has told me that the front is in good shape but "needs a new back." Of course, until I actually get the quilt, I won't know what the situation actually is, but I also have some vintage quilt tops that need to be quilted. What is recommended when needing to quilt a vintage top? It feels like it is putting "old wine in new skins." Do you try to find vintage fabric? I need some advice. Thanks.

Obviously, this is not the only solution, and may not be right for your quilts, but here is a forum topic about some antique tops I finished for my sister-in-law last year.
